Why aren't there many XF finalists this year?

I was wondering as I always thought there was double eliminations in the live shows but we don't seem to be getting any this year.

In 2014 there were 16 finalists, anyone know why there was only 12 this year?

Obvs like 13 in 2015 because of 7 weeks of live shows.

There's normally 12

There was 13 last year due to a wildcard

They only started doing the 16 finalists thing in 2010, 12 was the standard from series 2 onwards (series 1 only had 9 ).

My favourite concept is 2011 tbh.

Well they only introduced that format because one of 2 Shoes went and got herself pregnant

How long you been watching X Factor will?

There's always been 12 except for in 2004, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2014 and 2015.

EDIT: just read the post about series one.
