Sharon Jones - lead singer of funk and soul group the Dap-Kings - has died at age 60.

The tragic news of her passing from pancreatic cancer was confirmed in a statement on the official Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings website late Friday (November 18).


That statement read: "We are deeply saddened to announce that Sharon Jones has passed away after a heroic battle against pancreatic cancer. She was surrounded by her loved ones, including the Dap-Kings.

"Thank you for your prayers and thoughts during this difficult time."

Further information about her tragic passing will "follow soon", according to her website.

Jones was a Grammy nominee, who collaborated with the likes of Lou Reed, Phish and Michael Bublé - to name only a few.

Known for her dynamic stage shows, Jones was a mainstay of the innovative Daptone Records and also an occasional actress.

She most recently guest starred in Netflix and Marvel's Luke Cage as one of the many performers on stage at Cottonmouth Stokes's Harlem night club.

Gutted! R.I.P. Sharon, she was an inspiration.

Sad news :( she was a huge influence on Amy Winehouse. Not too familiar with her own music but she seemed greatly respected.

RIP. I'm not familiar with her or her music but it is always sad when someone dies before their time.
