British Hero facing deportation from Australia

https://www.thesun.co.uk/news/222165...s-deportation/

A BRITISH backpacker who helped save the lives of others after a knifeman stabbed a young woman to death in Australia is now facing deportation.

Chris Porter, 22, was staying at a hostel on a farm in Home Hill, Queensland, when a blade wielding madman started attacking fellow Brit Mia Ayliffe-Chung in the bunk bed below him.

Mr Porter, from Kent, managed to warn others to barricade themselves inside their rooms and stay safe.

He then leapt from a balcony to go and fetch help, breaking both his ankles.

As a result of his leg injuries, Mr Porter was not able to fulfil the 88 days of work required to extend his visa for a second year.

He therefore faces having to return to the UK in the New Year, despite his pleas to the Australian government.

A petition has now been set up on Change.org calling on the authorities to let Mr Porter stay in the country.

It states: “Chris Porter bravely raced around Home Farm, Australia warning people to barricade themselves from danger on the night that Mia Ayliffe-Chung was murdered and Tom Jackson fatally wounded.

“Chris was seriously injured as he successfully saved many more people from injury or death.

“The injury he sustained that night prevented Chris from completing the 88 work days required to extend his visa. As a result, Chris faces deportation from Australia on 2nd January 2017.

“We feel that Chris’ heroic acts have not been truly appreciated and in recognition, he should be granted a visa extension.

“Please support our petition to request Australian Immigration services recognise this exceptional case and extend Chris’ visa for a further year.”

Surely this can't be true- how bl***Y ridiculous. They should be ashamed of themselves. Poor man. I imagine one way or another they will come to their senses.
