TV Show endings

a conversation with Lostie and TS got me thinking about this. Which TV shows that you loved, managed to end in a way that satisfied you and which ones made you want to throw your TV threw a window?

For me the Good :

Six Feet under - probably my favourite, I don't know if they could have done a more perfect job. Such a great show over all, highly recommend

Breaking Bad - I thought they did a pretty decent job with this
Spoiler:

as far as Walter goes, they redeemed him in as much of a way as they could without it being stupid and also i was glad Jessie survived, eventhough he's waaaay ****ed up now

The Meh :

Weeds - It was a bit meh, that's all

And The Bad :

Dexter - Arrrggghhhhhh, I loved loved loved this show so much and they absolutely ruined it in the last season, the whole last season was God awful but the end was just totally ****ing ridiculous
Spoiler:

Dexter thinks he's bad for Harrison what with him being a serial killer and all so he fakes his own death and becomes a lumber jack...........and leaves Harrison in the care of his girlfriend and also serial killer uuuummmm and don't even get me started on how he managed to steal Debs dead body from a crowded hospital

Lost :
Spoiler:

Pointless plot lines, ridiculous oh they're in purgatory after all but you all were wrong they didn't die on the island after all blah blah blah

Prison Break - Crap, I couldn't even be bothered writing anymore especially since apparently
Spoiler:

Michael is coming back to life for another season now

I really wanna know how GOT ends, I cant see it being too happy

GOOD

Buffy the Vampire Slayer
Spoiler:

Buffy defeats the first evil and destroys the hellmouth, sure we lose Spike and Anya but it was an amazing final battle, the musical score was outstanding and Buffy finally smiled at the prospect of not having the weight of the world on her shoulders after Willow shared the slayer strength between all potential slayers. I think the ending is a good one.

Harpers Island
Spoiler:

Although my favourite character dies in the final episode the series came full circle and I felt the writers did a great job. I wish there had been another series though.

One Tree Hill
Spoiler:

I half wish it had ended after the cast graduated high school but after it went on we got crazy nanny Carrie and Alex. Brooke held the show together and it ended on a high with Brooke finally finding true happiness.

Friends
Spoiler:

Perfect ending!

Sabrina the Teenage Witch
Spoiler:

Sabrina finally gets together with Harvey

Sex and the City
Spoiler:

I loved the ending but was glad we got the movies.

BAD

Lost

Firefly

Melrose Place

Tru Calling

Angel

The Carries Diarys

The only one I can think of that I've hated was How I Met Your Mother

Friends
Spoiler:

Perfect ending!

BAD

Angel

Agree with a few of these. The Buffy ending was perfect after it was almost prematurely ended at Season 5 (which would have been an AWFUL ending). I cried tbh. I cry every time I watch it. Buffy was a huge part of my teens :joker:

One Tree Hill went really sappy / bubblegum for YEARS after the highschool years and was like a totally different show... and then it reappeared for that 13-ep final series and absolutely knocked it out of the park. Classic OTH :hehe:.
Spoiler:

Dan going full on "Taken" and rampaging through the gangsters armed to the teeth to save Nathan... with Chris Keller as his sidekick, straight up murdering a goon by crushing him with a car :joker:. Brilliant.

Angel's ending was a disaster. Up there for "worst ever", along with The 4400 and Stargate Atlantis. They tried to explain it away as being supposed to represent the "never ending fight" but in reality, it simply ends on a massive cliffhanger, and the existence of a follow-up comic doesn't soften the blow. In fact it only makes it worse because the premise (that the whole of Los Angeles has been sucked into hell) would have made an amazing "real" Season 6 :fist:. To make matters worse... I recently read that the whole thing was over a hissy-fit. The network intended to renew for Season 6, but the creators asked if there was a possibility of securing an early renewal (rather than waiting until half way through the season) for security for the cast and crew... and some network exec thought they were being "smug". had a tantrum, and cancelled the show. They later thought it was a mistake and wanted to bring it back, but Boreanaz had already been picked up for "Bones" and most of the writers had started new projects too. Rage.

Buffy and Friends

I wish I could have said 24, had it ended with season 8 because I loved that ending so much.... "Shut it down" :bawling:  (although since that was written to be the ending at the time I'm going to cheat and say it anyway)

Also, 'The Comeback', absolutely brilliant finale.

The Buffy ending always makes me cry too, partly because of Anya and partly because Buffy had found happiness again after everything and she didn't have the weight of the world on her shoulders anymore.

Loved:
Spartacus. Probably my favourite finale tbh.
Spoiler:

I love that they stuck to history by having Spartacus and most of his allies fall in the final battle, it would have been awful if they changed it to give it a forced happy ending. But I also love that they managed to sprinkle in some optimism with a few of them surviving and Spartacus being content in death. It was the perfect bittersweet ending. Also the final end credits with shots of all the past characters and that final moment with Andy Whitfield

Lost. Not a view shared by everyone I know but I really did like it.
Spoiler:

It was perfect in terms of character conclusions and delivering emotionally and that was more important to me. Getting to see so many old faces in the flash sideways was great (although some characters like Danielle and Alex should have been in the finale too, though they did reappear in the final season at least). I never did get the whole thing with the light at the heart of the Island and I had some issues with why some characters were and weren't in the final church scene (and Shannon being Sayid's soulmate rather than Nadia didn't work for me) but those are minor gripes with what was on the whole a very emotionally satisfying conclusion. The final shot of Jack dying with Vincent by his side and his eye closing (the whole sequence mirroring the very first scene of the Pilot when he woke up) was just perfect.

Person of Interest.
Spoiler:

Again, it was brilliantly bittersweet and that was the best way to go out. A completely happy, cost-free ending wouldn't have worked for this show and an unhappy ending would just make the deaths of Root and Reese pointless so I love that they won but with tragedy along the way. Reese dying to save Finch was fitting since it brought things full circle with Finch rescuing Reese from his terrible life at the start of the show, Finch going back to Grace at the end was brilliant pay-off for their relationship, the Machine appearing as Root throughout the episode was a wonderful idea and her musings about death added even more emotional punch, and Shaw taking Bear and continuing to investigate numbers with the Machine was such a great place to go out on.

Ugly Betty. Bit of a different example from the others since it was a much lighter show
Spoiler:

But yeah, I really liked it. It did the "everyone gets their happy ending" thing that most of these sort of shows usually do but it worked rather than feeling annoyingly cheesy. That final scene with the title appearing on screen and Ugly disappearing was probably the best shot the show could have ended with.

Liked:
Fringe. Now for the most part I really did love this and I do view it as a great finale but
Spoiler:

the reset button thing did bother me and still does. I wish they had a way to defeat the Observers without erasing everything that happened throughout the final season, it nullified powerful moments like Nina's death (one of the best scenes from the entire show) since it never happened now. Though it was better than a lot of other examples of this happening since it came with a cost (Walter's departure) so that was a plus point. In terms of emotion and character pay-off it really was brilliant and such a satisfying way to go out but I just have always hated the trope of undoing things to save the day so that stops me from putting it up in the Love category </3

Meh:
Nikita. I dunno, it just didn't really leave me feeling much of anything although one moment that I felt was absolutely perfect was
Spoiler:

Amanda being imprisoned and alone for the rest of her life. You go into it fully expecting her to finally die but this was even better. But yeah, on the whole I felt more for the previous season's finale and think the destruction of Division, which is probably my favourite sequence from the whole show should have been in the very last episode.

Did you ever think of it like this, though:

Spoiler:

The scene doesn't just mirror the first scene... it could run into it. Jacks eyes close in those final seconds... fade to black... *pop* you're back at the first scene. Jacks eyes spring open. Because it's Purgatory so it just continues to loop like that, over and over, for infinity, and Lost never ends. :omgno:

No, because Jack isn't dead at the start of episode 1 and they leave the island in season 4. :nono:

Or those characters felt that they had "unfinished business" that was part of their purgatory and they were never really back in the world...

I dunno I only watched it through once, on the original run, my memory of it probably has gaps :joker:
