20 million Muslims march against ISIS

The March

On 20 and 21 November, 20 million Muslims took part in a peaceful march against Daesh. They came together in Karbala, Iraq for the annual Arbaeen Procession to commemorate Hussain ibn Ali, a famous Shia Muslim martyr. A man who, in the 7th century CE, stood up to a tyrant who demanded his obedience. Much like those standing up to Daesh today.

The procession is a Shia tradition, but most Sunni Muslims also hold Hussain ibn Ali in great esteem. Daesh, on the other hand, sees Shia Muslims as apostates, and has murdered Shia civilians on numerous occasions. Including at last year’s march.

According to MintPress News:

The marchers… [came] from over 60 countries, and most of them have marched all the way to Karbala from other Iraqi cities like Najaf and Baghdad in a show of devotion.
Many of the marchers arrived on foot, despite risking their lives by travelling near Daesh-controlled areas in Iraq. They used social media to share their commemoration of the martyr and solidarity against Daesh:

They are to be commended. We need MORE moderate peace-loving Muslims to replicate this courageous stance against the twisted terrorists, in EVERY country of the world.

It's great there was a March but kind of a shame there are so few events where peaceful Muslims stand up against extremism. Fear perhaps.

I agree fear may be a big part of it, but most freer societies in the world are so due to fighting for their freedoms. A lot of people have died to keep Britain and other countries in the world free of dictatorships and tyranny. I think maybe people need to think of the long-term consequences of not doing so.

I think they're unfortunately going to be outnumbered.

Makes sense. The population of Iraq are nearly all Muslim and many are killed by ISIS.Good for them for standing up to the terrorists.

Yeah it would be nice to see more of this in western countries too when we are attacked.A show of solidarity type thing.Unfortunately some of the Muslims in our country don't even come forward and give information to the police on the radicalised muslims in our muslim communities.

I mean let's be honest 20 is nothing to brag about, but I will admit there has been bigger demonstrations that the media has just ignored.

Brillopad 27-11-2016 03:29 PM

The op said 20 million, not 20.
