Zsa Zsa Gabor has shuffled off this mortal coil

...two months shy of turning 100 (RIP)

Legendary Hollywood actress Zsa Zsa Gabor has died.

The Hungarian beauty passed away on Sunday after suffering a heart attack just two months shy of her 100th birthday.

The 99-year-old, who was married nine times, was rushed to hospital in Los Angeles where she was pronounced dead.

Publicist Ed Lozzi confirmed Gabor suffered the heart attack in her Bel Air mansion. She had been on life support for the last five years.

Her prolific career on screen was surpassed by her colourful life away from the cameras as her and her sister Eva became global socialites.

Gabor began her stage career in Vienna and was crowned Miss Hungary in 1936.

She then emigrated to the States in 1941 and became a sought-after actress described as having "European flair and style," with a personality that "exuded charm and grace.”

Her first film role was a supporting role in Lovely to Look At.

She later acted in We're Not Married! and played one of her few leading roles in the 1952 film Moulin Rouge, directed by John Huston, who described her as a "creditable" actress.

Outside of her acting career, Gabor was best known for her marriages, including hotel magnate Conrad Hilton and actor George Sanders.

She once stated, "Men have always liked me and I have always liked men. But I like a mannish man, a man who knows how to talk to and treat a woman – not just a man with muscles."

Gabor was wed to the founder of the Hilton hotel chain and great-grandfather to Paris Hilton for five years.

In her 1970 advice book, How to Catch a Man, How to Keep a Man, How to Get Rid of a Man, Zsa Zsa says outright that Conrad Hilton’s decision to purchase the famed Waldorf Astoria hotel in New York City was her idea.

“I’m a compulsive buyer,” she wrote. “Anything beautiful I see I want. That’s how we got the Waldorf Astoria. I told Conrad Hilton, ‘I want the Waldorf,’ and he bought it. The only problem was I divorced him before the escrow was finished.’ ”

One of Gabor’s biggest claims to fame happened as a result of a 1989 altercation with a Beverly Hills police officer who pulled her over for driving with expired licence plates.

She famously slapped him, and would later claim she did so in self-defence.

For the last several decades she was beset with countless health problems.

Her husband Frederic Prinz Von Anhalt held birthday parties for Gabor the last few years, but she was so sick visitors were not allowed in her bedroom.

Her death comes nine months after the veteran actress was admitted to a medical centre in Los Angeles with breathing difficulties.

Gabor, who was left partially paralysed following a car accident in 2002, was battling a lung infection, relating to a feeding tube she previously had fitted.

She was also forced to have her right leg amputated after it became infected with gangrene.

Two years ago a priest was called to her hospital bedside to perform last rites because her husband thought she was almost dead but she managed to pull through.

She’s also famous for having married many times – nine, by most counts: Burhan Asaf Belge (1937 – 1941), Conrad Hilton (April 10, 1942 – 1947), George Sanders (April 2, 1949 – April 2, 1954), Herbert Hutner (November 5, 1962 – March 3, 1966), Joshua S. Cosden, Jr. (March 9, 1966 – October 18, 1967), Jack Ryan (January 21, 1975 – August 24, 1976), Michael O’Hara (August 27, 1976 – 1983), Felipe de Alba (April 13, 1983 – April 14, 1983) and finally Frederic von Anhalt (August 14, 1986 to present).

What a shame, if anyone was going to live to be 100 you'd have thought it would have been her.

May Zsa Zsa rest in Peace.

Kirk Douglas turned a 100 the other day, I didn't realise he was even near that age.

Given how Michael Douglas looks these days you'd think they were the other way around. :smug:

I don't know much about her, except she was famous.

That saidd, I'd be pretty well hissed off if I died just months from my 100th birthday.

It's like travelling ninety-nine miles to an event. You're one mile off and you realise you're going the wrong way.

All ninety nine miles. :p
