stolen property

Ok so my love life has crashed and burned again

This time after 3 months , she has stolen £575 worth of electrical appliances I bought and paid for 4 weeks ago, furniture worth £300+ and £300 of food for Christmas thrown into black bags

I have the receipts for everything

She claims it is in storage in my town waiting to be delivered to her in england
so what do I do to get my stuff back?

go to every storage firm in town with receipts? ring the police? etc

all advice duly appreciated:wavey:

Call the police I'd say but because you two were together they may tell you its a civil matter

Cherie 23-12-2016 12:24 PM

D: you know how to pick them

user104658 23-12-2016 12:30 PM

The police are highly unlikely to be interested in a non-violent domestic. Also if she was actually living with you at any point, you will have a (very) tough time proving that these things belong to you personally. If this is the whole story then, to be totally honest, it sounds like she knows that well and it probably isn't the first time she's done this to someone...

Judge Rinder!

the truth 23-12-2016 12:33 PM

its only 3 months I have all receipts and credit card statement, how isnt this criminal?

Northern Monkey 23-12-2016 12:40 PM

Hoody, gloves and go rob her house for equal value of goods.Or better still if she's got a cat or dog then take it for ransom.

This is something for the small claims court, if you have all receipts

thesheriff443 23-12-2016 12:48 PM

If she says it was a gift then you are screwed, you have clearly spent a lot in a short time, so have you been scammed.

why cant I just take a policeman to the storage container place , with my receipts and get my stuff back?

It probably technically is but impossible to prove in terms of pressing charges. She didn't break into your home, and she can simply claim that they were all gifts that you now want back because the relationship ended. Whether or not the police actually believe her story... there's no way to prove it either way. It's her word against yours. Hence a small claims court issue. But the cost of taking it to small claims court will be more than the goods are worth if you don't win the case (you are liable for all court costs if you don't succeed).

Honestly... your best option is to chalk it up to experience and try to be a little more discerning about who you let into your life and your home :umm2:.

Because you can't prove what's in the container and (I would hope!) the storage company wouldn't let anyone into the container but the person who hired it (unless the police have a solid reason to search it, which they don't).

You don't know where it is, she could be lying and it was all shipped in a van, a policeman won't touch this

One of her presents is a framed movie pic of the first Dvd we watched on our first date at LT Towers (some random film about Black rights in USA but I think she will like it) :hee:

She'll only break your heart LT! Run! What if you find out she's skeptical about US police forces?

Take her to small claims court. You can make a claim online, they may suggest mediation. All the info is here: https://www.gov.uk/make-court-claim-for-money/overview
