Music in 2016 Review [Top 10 Albums]
http://i.imgur.com/2yv2Hjp.png My hundred greatest tracks of 2016 will be revealed, ten by ten, rather soon - now that the likelihood of something amazing being released before the year is out has all but died :pipe: TiBB Disclaimer: Ariana Grande does feature. Britney does not. Albums, videos, artworks and "the worst of 2016" will all follow :hee: Feel free to use the hashtag #Shaunty16 x |

http://i.imgur.com/zA35vij.png #100 - "Honey" by Katy B & KAYTRANADA Spoiler: The first song from the album of the same name that I heard sadly turned out to be the best one. That's not to say 'Honey' was a bad album, it just sort of peaked too soon. It did introduce me to KAYTRANADA though, whose album did excellent things in 2016. #99 - "Where Is Home?" by Elliphant & Twin Shadow Spoiler: She looks like the sort of woman you'd expect to see in a Lostie! avatar in this video which is all very fine and well but it's the song that matters and it's quite nice tbh! #98 - "Cruel" by Foxes Spoiler: She really kept that spot warm in January 2016 for better and more interesting popstars to come along and do the job properly didn't she? This was the best song on 'All I Need' by a country mile. #97 - "All in the Name" by Bright Light Bright Light, Elton John & the Scissor Sisters Spoiler: The video is cute but also sort of why I wouldn't let Lucas anywhere near childrens' TV. #96 - "Unstoppable" by Sia Spoiler: I think this song's in an advert for a charity? Which is a fair bit of exposure I suppose but when this is the best song on her newest album and you hear that ****ing Cheap Thrills dirge every single day at work it BEGINS TO PISS YOU OFF. #95 - "Roses" by Carly Rae Jepsen Spoiler: An excellent pop song, you should expect no less from Miss Jepsen. #94 - "Old Skool" by Metronomy Spoiler: They continue to be one of my favourite "bands I don't really care that much about". Even though they're very much 'local' to me. Which is a shame. Also the video is very much one of those videos that someone like Will would post as the subject of a thread with the title "TiBB house party?" and 3 people would reply and oh gosh there'd be so much laughter #93 - "Jonathan" by Christine and the Queens & Perfume Genius Spoiler: There wasn't a chance the world's best queer musician and the world's best Frenchwoman were going to team up and not make this 100. #92 - "High and Low" by Empire of the Sun Spoiler: After their second album I feared they'd just disappear into obscurity and never match 'Walking on a Dream' or 'We are the People' and whilst this isn't QUITE as good it is rather bloody close. #91 - "One Dance" by Drake, Wizkid & Kyla This isn't on YouTube which is just as well because I'm bloody sick of it now. 10 more tomorrow darlings. Maybe 20! x |

Not the scottish one though, basic ho. |
Three replies is a very rare thing for me so I'm going to steam right ahead
http://i.imgur.com/zA35vij.png #90 - "Borders" by M.I.A. Spoiler: I ummed and ahhed about including this in the list at all, because 'AIM' was a heaving barrel of turd and I'm not sure this is any different. How can a woman responsible for BirdFlu, YALA, Paper Planes and Galang retire with this wet fart? It's very troubling. Borders is ok though. #89 - "Nothing Else Matters" by Little Mix Spoiler: The entire album is full of choruses like this - the same title barked beyond repetition over a hodge podge of various trendy sounds that all come off as tedious. But 'Nothing Else Matters' is a title that applies to its status on Glory Days - delete everything else, and pretend this is all they released in 2016. #88 - "Higher" by The Naked and Famous Spoiler: They sit on a pedestal that might as well be emblazoned with "not as good as CHVRCHES but still worth the odd listen". This is nice? #87 - "Crack Baby" by Mitski Spoiler: In which Mitski's only fan, That Girl, submits his life story and gets a rather lovely song made around it. #86 - "The Greatest" by KING Spoiler: Who doesn't love an 8-bit video? This girl group were championed by Prince and have a sound that's somewhere between Erykah Badu and Solange and that's a nice spot to find yourself in, really. #85 - "E.V.P." by Blood Orange Spoiler: Speaking of Prince, this is so heavily influenced by him that it's almost as if he never died ha ha ha *whatever's keeping me together slowly begins falling apart* ha ha ha all my icons died ha ha oh god #84 - "Belong" by Roosevelt Spoiler: If you have a smoke machine and some neon lighting and nothing better to do with your time might I suggest putting this on and doing some angry yoga to it? #83 - "Stop Desire" by Tegan and Sara Spoiler: I saw someone (I think it might have been Pitchfork) claiming this was the greatest thing they'd ever released, and whilst it obviously isn't (it's 'Closer'), it is really really really good anyway. #82 - "Dancing Makes Us Brave" by Nimmo Spoiler: Even though their band name sounds like something that the_truth would call Niamh before passing out in a puddle of his own bile, and even though the bloke's voice sounds somewhere uncomfortably between Alison Moyet and that annoying cunt from Years & Years, they do put together some really fun and exciting 'tunes' so yes, support them and give them a chance. Let them into your heart etc. #81 - "No Problem" by Chance the Rapper, 2 Chainz and Lil Wayne Spoiler: No, I don't like having Lil Wayne on these lists either (he wouldn't have featured since popping up on Kevin Rudolf's "Let it Rock", really). But the video does have DJ Khaled being DJ Khaled so there's no arguing with it, really. #80 - "Dancin' in Circles" by Lady GaGa Spoiler: Just including this before I forget about Joanne #79 - "A Love Song" by Ladyhawke Spoiler: I think I am resigned to the fact that I just lap up anything that has a chorus that sounds like it was released in 1983, yeah. The video is how I imagine Stranger Things. #78 - "The Colour in Anything" by James Blake Spoiler: It does seem a bit silly trying to force a James Blake song on people because he's more of a "sit down and listen to the album whilst you sew together a patchwork quilt for that homeless woman on the corner" kind of guy but here you are anyway. #77 - "Identikit" by Radiohead Spoiler: (presented without comment because if you like radiohead you'll like this and if you don't you won't so there's little point arguing it) #76 - "Shut Up Kiss Me" by Angel Olsen Spoiler: Sia's changed a bit #75 - "The Pop Kids" by Pet Shop Boys Spoiler: It makes growing up in London in the 90s sound a lot of fun although it probably wasn't any more or less than it is now? #74 - "00000 Million" by Bon Iver Spoiler: I'm not at all a fan of the whole "let's name everything by pressing the ALT button and any 3 numbers" theme of their third album but I am a fan of the music on it and this is lovely and relaxing as ever. #73 - "Read U Wrote U" by RuPaul Spoiler: I'm not sure that there'll ever be a performance on the show that tops this so this is probably as high as it gets for Ru. Yes, the Roxxxy bit is a bit...erm... but she tried, bless her. Plus Detox's verse is probably better than anything done by Drake this year don't @ me. #72 - "Ain't My Fault" by Zara Larsson Spoiler: OmyOmyOmy. #71 - "Don't Touch My Hair" by Solange Spoiler: (Not sure I'd want to with those bloody beads amirite?) There, I want an essay on these twenty songs by this time tomorrow. |
Christine, Mitski and Dancin' In Circles
|
I'm listening to the Solange song now because I keep hearing about her, I like it
|
Great list so far, Empire of the Sun and the Naked & Famous are both brilliant.
