Scalebound (Xbox exclusive) cancelled, Xbox in trouble?

As rumors earlier today suggested, Microsoft has confirmed to IGN that development on Scalebound has ceased.

A Microsoft representative provided the following statement to IGN:

“After careful deliberation, Microsoft Studios has come to the decision to end production for Scalebound. We’re working hard to deliver an amazing lineup of games to our fans this year, including Halo Wars 2, Crackdown 3, State of Decay 2, Sea of Thieves and other great experiences.”

Microsoft further pointed to a recent post on its official site about its additional plans for 2017.

When asked if the Scalebound IP is owned by Microsoft or by developer Platinum, a Microsoft spokesperson simply said "we do not comment on the details of our business agreements with partners," and provided no additional comment when asked if Microsoft will seek to work with Platinum on a separate project in the future.

As rumors earlier today suggested, Microsoft has confirmed to IGN that development on Scalebound has ceased.

Scalebound was originally announced at E3 2014 and planned for a holiday 2016 release. Shortly before last year’s E3, Platinum delayed the game to 2017 “in order to deliver on our ambitious vision and ensure that Scalebound lives up to expectations.”

This makes a good point, what exactly are Microsoft bringing to the table anymore? Sure they have the Scorpio coming out, but what is the point when they don't really have any killer exclusives on the horizon.

is there really any point in buying an xbox one anymore

might as well just get a decent pc

not that the ps4 has given us many mind blowing games either, this gen hasn't been great so far

PS4 has a decent number of titles so far, with Uncharted 4 and Bloodborne with the likes of Last of Us Part II and FFVII Remake coming up, and generally a lot of varying types of genres, nothing overly amazing, but a good steady stream of exclusives.

Xbox itself has just lost the plot, it used to be so strong around 2008, but they have done nothing really of note since then, they just seem to rely on Halo, Gears and Forza, while they may be good, they are sort of starting to feel stale, Halo especially. I think this will likely be Xbox's last generation, they just seem to have lost any sort of steam.

The PS4 has been killing it this gen, the only thing letting it down is that PS Plus' selection of free games are lacking big hitters.

The short version of the story IMO is that the 360 did so well last gen that Microsoft incorrectly assumed that the Xbone would "sell itself" and they got lazy, and were completely out-maneuvered by Sony in the crucial early stages. They just can't seem to get any real momentum back at this point.

i hate xbox but i don't want it to die out. if sony go and get themselves a monopoly on the console market then they'll never implement some of the much needed features to the psn that we've been waiting years for. :worry;

The trouble isn't with Xbox, it's with Microsoft, who seem to be rapidly losing interest in the Xbox brand. It's like the opposite of Sony, who are depending on the Playstation brand.

The fact that xbox exclusives aren't even xbox exclusives short term any more really demonstrates that... The PC releases are on the same day or at least very shortly after. Microsoft at some point realised that PC gaming isn't dead and realised that, since Windows is still basically a monopoly, they had a pre made platform right there and so Xbox has become... What? A sort of crappy lowish spec PC that you plug into your TV?

i've never liked xbox. i always associated it with the #lads in high school who never shut up about how good they are at modern warfare on their 360. i'd rather go on my playstation and play some kingdom hearts tbh. :spin2:
