The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild | Champions Ballad (DLC 2) out now

Is anyone else excited about this? It's being released this year but I'm not sure exactly when.

I'm not a big gamer but I love the Zelda series and I'm thinking I might buy a Wii U for it

It sounds like the Switch is going to be pretty cheap tbh and by the time Zelda is released you'll probably even be able to get one second hand.

Personally I love Zelda but I couldn't justify buying a whole new console for it...

I want to play this asap

i find zelda really overrated :worry:

although admittedly i have only played 2 zelda games (twlight princess and ocarina of time)

but like ooc is widely regarded as the single greatest video game of all time and i'm just like naah

When did you play OoT though? At the time it was revolutionary but it hasn't aged particularly well, everything it does well has been built on and done better since. But 3rd person action adventures wouldn't be where they are today without OoT in my opinion.

FF7 was released at a similar time and it's a similar story there. It was revolutionary for gaming, it will always be amazing to anyone who was into it on release, but if a new gamer used to modern gaming was to pick it up now it would be hard to understand the hype.

I hadn't heard of the Switch tbh but yeah I'd only really be getting it to play this game  (I mean I'd probably end up getting other games too but anyway) so I might look into that instead.

I love the idea of the open world and doing the dungeons in any order :flutter:

Jamie89 12-01-2017 06:49 PM

Although actually, the only thing that makes me wonder about the open world is that normally the dungeons build in difficulty as you progress, so I'm not sure how they'd be able to do that with this game if you can do them in any order

Level scaling the enemies, probably. Which has mixed results in my experience, it takes away a lot of scope for deliberate design choices.

What do you mean, like make the enemies harder the more dungeons you've completed? I'm not sure how well that work :/ I'm still optimistic about it because they have a good enough track record that I think they'd manage to pull it off (and they've had long enough to work on this game), but yeah the dungeon progression in terms of design/item use/skill etc would have to be very different.

With Zelda, more likely make the enemies tougher the more hearts you have / depending on what equipment you have... since Zelda doesn't really have traditional "levelling" to make you stronger. The problem then tends to be that there's very little sense of achievement... you don't feel like "YEAH! I'm good enough to beat this guy now!" because everything is always tailored to where your character is. I'm not a huge level-scaling fan, personally. I prefer games where you can run into something too big for you and get your ass handed to you... for that feeling when you go back much later and win.

But yeah also a good point that with Zelda a big feature has always been using equipment you find in one dungeon to solve another. I don't know how they can replicate that if you can do them in any order?

Nintendo confirmed the release date this morning :amazed: they obviously saw this thread :spin:

It's being released on 3rd March 2017 as a launch title for the Switch.

There's also a new trailer:

(Ugh it looks amazing... but I'm not sure if I'm keen on the voice acting /Zelda purist)

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild‘s reviews will be coming in later this week, but print media has already started to go and publish its reviews for the title. We already know that EDGE has given the game a historic 10/10 score– and now, the German magazine GamePro has shared its score for the game too. And it is almost unprecedented for them as well.

Breath of the Wild has scored a 94 from GamePro, which is the second highest score they have awarded to any game to date, and the highest score they have awarded so far this generation. Breath of the Wild is rated higher by this magazine than Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, Bloodborne, and Grand Theft Auto 5. It is also rated higher than its own predecessor, The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword.

:amazed: :clap1:

Also, the Wii U version has apparently been leaked due to a problem at Nintendo or something (I'm not sure exactly what happened because avoiding spoilers :worry: ) but it's being pirated and live streamed so there'll probably be major spoilers coming :worry:

Yas queen @ purrah!... and that whole lost woods/korok forest/deku tree thing had me in awe! I don't know why but Beedle always makes me laugh too

Does anyone have the DLC pack? I'm curious if people think it's worthwhile getting. Imo the new map feature is the only thing that sounds really good (I want it!) but I'm not sure about the rest. New armour, travel medallion... seems pointless? The trial of the sword sounds interesting but I'm undecided

and it's actually really good (and definitely worth it since it's cheap anyway and you get the next set of DLC with it too). Trial of the Sword, Hero's Path, and the Korok Mask are the highlights! (Although there's a bunch of stuff from the DLC that I haven't got or done yet)

Jamie89 07-09-2017 12:13 PM

I finished Trial of The Sword yesterday and it's amazing! I really wasn't that interested in the idea of it, and playing it at first I wasn't really that keen on it, but it really draws you in and gets addictive and it's actually brilliant (and really rewarding when you complete it since it's so hard), it's a must buy!

Ant. 07-09-2017 04:34 PM

Ugh I need to complete TotS but I'm addicted to Mario and Rabbids rn </3
