I AM very sad to report that a talent show institution is coming to an end.

After 12 years, X Factor spin-off Xtra Factor is being taken off the air by ITV.

It’s the end of a programme which was launched alongside the main talent show by SIMON COWELL in 2004 and has made household names of former hosts including HOLLY WILLOUGHBY, FEARNE COTTON and CAROLINE FLACK.

The decision has nothing to do with the show’s recent run — which was fronted by RYLAN CLARK-NEAL and MATT EDMONDSON.

It is purely down to ITV bosses embracing the future, as they plan to focus on a digital spin-off instead.

A source said: “The Xtra Factor has had an incredible run on TV but the producers have realised they need to keep up with the times and move with the audience.

Big mistake. If More Talent can consistently be the best spin-off show, then all Xtra needed to do was improve its production (which it did under Rylan and Matt) and build the viewership up again, unfortunately I think the dwindling ratings of the main show are probably just naturally having a knock on effect

It's a shame cause Xtra under Caroline and Olly was by far the best spin-off show. Mess @ them wheeling out the 'online updates' angle that C5 did with BB :umm2:

The Rylan & Matt format was tragic, idc about a BOTS discussion panel, I want spoof segments and unseen good/wacky acts!

I agree the live shows pre the live shows (lol) were pointless, but the studio shows were the best they've been since Olly and Caroline

The Xtra Factor ratings were quite bad. It dropped throughout the run of the last series, and some of the last few episodes only got 150,000 viewers.

With Big Brother I think people mainly only watch Bit on the Side to see extra footage and news from the house.
