James Cosmo "The A-Lister"...

That really is a bit of a stretch, surely? I mean really, come on. OK yes, the rest of them that have been in there this year are firmly D-List and Z-List... but James can surely only be considered a solid C-List? He's a minor character actor... yes, he's been in a LOT of shows, but not even really any supporting roles let alone feature roles? His GoT character had impact on the story but, if you add up all of his screen time, I doubt it amounts to more than 15 - 20 minutes... and not even all of the GoT main cast would be considered A-List celebrities.

Peter Dinklage, Lena Headey, Emilia Clarke, Kit Harington, MAYBE Sophie Turner since X-men could be considered low-level A list. A lot of the others B list but no more.

James Cosmo A-list... :umm2:

Serious debates is a bit of a stretch too

Niamh. 24-01-2017 10:25 AM

Move my thread immediately Niamh :fist:

[edit] You have already done it. Excellent work.

By CBB standards, he's A* List.

It's too funny how Coleen is fawning over him, Spencer was right he hasn't been in the movies since the 90s :joker: I don't really know why he is so pompous, Gary Busey was a far bigger star and he had none of his airs and graces, the smaller the star the bigger the ego

Even the movies he was in were small roles . I'm not saying he's a bad actor, he's probably a more skilled actor than PLENTY of actual Hollywood A-listers, but that's not really the point. He has had a long, successful "working career" and there's plenty of merit in that, but it's a simple fact that he's not a "Big Star". Being honest... upon first hearing the name "James Cosmo", how many of us immediately knew who that was? It was only after I googled it and said "Ooooh, Jeor Mormont!" that I had any idea who he was . Also, before CBB, if he'd walked up to my counter to place a bet on the 3.15 at Wolverhampton, I wouldn't have known the difference between him and any other white-haired punter :joker:.

(Although to be fair, I didn't realise I was placing £2000 bets for a millionaire English Premiership footballer until another customer told me who he was :hehe: )

I'm a huge GOTs fan as well and I didn't realise he was the Lord Commander either until it was pointed out to me. Gary busey and Vinnie Jones i would have instantly knew both by face and by name, that's the difference imo

That actually goes for a lot of them in there though. Coleen Nolan, Kim... even If Calum Best walked in I would know who he was. If Jedward or Speidi walked in I'd scream like a 12 year old girl :blush2:.

Amy Jade 24-01-2017 10:59 AM

Gary Busy, Tara Reid, Vinnie Jones, and Michael Madsen are all more recognizable than James Cosmo and they all took part and played the game. 'Silly suits' and all.

He's D List if I am being kind.

south12345 24-01-2017 10:59 AM

Maybe not an A lister...

Just another retort, in his defence from Coleen, when Spencer was having yet another bitch about the guy behind his back....Even if some what exaggerated it was with good intentions.

The Penguin 24-01-2017 11:00 AM

Ratings like A-list or D-list are for celebrities without a great talent. Pamela Anderson is an A-list celebrity while Nicola Mclean is D-list. It doesn't seem appropriate for people of great ability.
James Cosmo is not super famous but he is a widely respected actor of high calibre.

Yeah but I was talking about in terms of being a well known actor or not. being well known for being in films is much more prestigious than being well known for being in reality TV shows

Like I said though I'm not saying he doesn't have an impressive career, he does, as a character actor both on TV and in movies. Skilled character actors are, obviously, essential to making good film and television... it's not playing down his achievements to point out that while he is very good at what he does, and has had a very successful career doing what he does, it doesn't automatically make him an instantly recognisable "star". In fact, it's really important to have these great actors who can play those roles and NOT stand out, in order to maintain believability whilst not drawing attention away from the main focus characters.

I mean, on the flipside, there are TONNES of "Hollywood Stars" who are horribly bad actors and are there either for looks, or because of a "lucky break", or because despite not having great acting abilities they have charisma and screen presence.

I see what you mean, but I would say he is an A lister compared to the housemates that are in there.

I would say he's got a better and more admirable reason for being famous but he's not an A Lister compared to proper A lister Hollywood stars kind of a thing?

Stevep 24-01-2017 11:18 AM

He's been in the likes of Braveheart, Chronicles of Narnia, Trainspotting 1 and 2, Troy, GoT and Sons of Anarchy. Granted he was not a major character in some of those films/shows but he's obviously highly thought of and respected in the industry to be cast in those roles in those big budget films/shows in the first place. Not necessarily 'A List' but undoubtedly a highly successful and respected actor. Spencer on the other hand...

See I've seen everything on that list but I still wouldn't have been able to tell you who he played in them unless someone said he played this guy and showed me a picture of him in it (bar GOTs I remembered him after someone said who he played)

I would say A List celebrities are Leonardo DiCaprio, Sandra Bullock, Kate Winslet, Tom Hanks etc

Every single one of the big films you listed him in he played very minor roles though, I'm honestly not saying the guys not a talented actor but he's not an A List actor either.

Vanessa 24-01-2017 12:16 PM

Michael Madsen was the biggest star they had in there. He's been in some of the biggest movies ever. And who can forget Reservoir Dogs? :flutter:
