Psychics

Anyone ever been to one. I would love to but am too scared

Sticks 02-04-2007 07:24 PM

Don't bother

There is no scientific evidence that psychic powers exist, well no so called psychic has passed the James Randi $1million challenge

andybigbro 02-04-2007 07:25 PM

Nope i have never been sue but my mums has she believes in that sort of stuff

Emilee 02-04-2007 07:26 PM

I dont want to, i jst want to leave that sort of stuff alone. It would scare the hell out fo me.

Sticks 02-04-2007 07:49 PM

A number of them are skilled in cold reading techniques which makes you think they are psychic when they are actually frauds.

The magician James Randi has demonstrated this over and over again. He even did one trick where he got people to fill in personal information for a personalised horoscope and then gave them cards which seemed to describe each person. He then got them to swap cards and they found out that all the cards were exactly the same. James Randi then pointed to the questionnaires which were unopened. He had not looked a them. It showed just how much there was in horoscopes, i.e nothing what so ever.

I have read of some people who devised a special test to see if the psychic was genuine, and they failed. The test was a reference to someone close to them who had died. The psychic referred to either a parent or a sibling, when in fact it was a pet.

There is no need to be afraid of them, there is no evidence of psychic powers whatsoever.

Which brings us to Silvia Brown, who told a couple live on TV that their missing son had been killed, and then a few years later he was found ALIVE and kept prisoner.

Nuff said?

I want to see one just out of curiosity. I think it's a complete load of bull and would probably have the same opinion after i'd seen one but just out of curiosity i wanna see one.

My mum and aunties have but they wouldn't tell me what she said.

Sunny_01 04-04-2007 10:28 AM

I have gone with the flow and been with a couple of mates to see two or three over the years, and to be honest I came away unconvinced that anything they told me was true and certainly they all gave me future predictions which of course have all failed to come true!

Ruth 04-04-2007 10:43 AM

Don't waste your money Sue. They are just con artists for the most part - there may be some who believe that they are genuinely psychic, but they are just deluded.

I know a psychic who is also a medium. He is actually my best friends grandfather and he never charges anyone for his gift. He sees that as being very disrespectful..... the police have also on many occasion asked him to help with unsolved murders and people that have gone missing.
I have been to see him a few times and EVERYTHING he told me that would happen has.... sometimes he might get it slightly wrong ... for instance he told me I would be able to see the Effiel Tower from my window... even though I had no need to move to Paris. I moved to London and from my window I can now see a tower that looks exactly like the Effiel Tower, that really freaked me out...

He has two spirit guides that give him information and he loves it when people dont believe in it because he always proves them wrong. He will tell you things about yourself that no one would ever know...

People who ask for money are frauds. It is the ones that dont that you have to take note of. You have to think what is in it for them if they are not getting anything out of it.

How do you explain that?

Even though this isn't about psychics, wasn't there a story in the news about this girl who could see inside peoples' bodies?? :puzzled:
She was found out to be a fake.

I remember the first time I went to see him I was so scared at what he was going to say, I was shaking.... but he never tells you anything bad, just positive stuff. He will warn you not to do this or that but never the really bad stuff..... you have to work it out yourself, he cant tell you everything otherwise what would the point of your life be.

He always says at the start of every reading "Now Im going to tell you a pack of lies" and then it all comes true lol

Bells 05-04-2007 09:55 AM

Cool.

And...she was a fake?! Really! Thanks for clearing that up... I always wondered what happened there, and remember finding it fascinating when I heard.

EvaTheDiva 05-04-2007 10:00 AM

I cant remember the full details just that she had major inconsistencies in her diagnosis'

Chrizzle 05-04-2007 10:01 AM

I'd be to scared, if I got told I was going to die in the next year, I'd spend the rest of the year worrying:laugh:

I am somewhat sceptical about this, police need evidence that the CPS will allow to go before a jury. This is best done with forensic science

It is either right or wrong, if he said "something like the Eiffel tower" you might have a case, but he was specific. What is happening here is you are trying to make reality fit what your friend's kith and kin told you. Can you please supply a picture of this tower and I will get one of the Eiffel tower. Plus London a modern capital city is bound to have lots of towers for communications, what does that prove.

So maybe he is good at cold reading, a good psychologist will also be able to do this trick, or possibly trained stage magician like James Randi.

Kudos? Something that will mark them out as special to build up their ego?
