Places to see in London
 

Going to London in a few days for a holiday. Most people on this forum are British so thought I'd ask for any recommendations of places to go? All I have so far is the Eye and Madam Tussauds.

I think the weather will be cloudy next week so would it pointless booking it?

I'd def recommend the Sea Life Centre/Aquarium (next to the Eye). I was a bit half-assed about going there but it's brilliant. The Giant Turtles and the sharks >>>

Also Buckingham Palace (obv), Houses of Parliament and Piccadilly Circus at night. Camden Market is great too if you like little nik naks!

Highly recommend the Tate Modern. And Soho for nightlife.

You can't really rely on the weather even if says it'll be nice, it might change. I'd just come expecting the worse and if you get sunshine then bonus :laugh:

There are soooo many amazing places it's unreal.

It all depends on what your interests are so I'll name some places I've been to that I've enjoyed:
- London eye
- Shard
- London zoo
- Sea life aquarium
- Hackney Wick/Central (awesome graffiti and shopping area)
- Shoreditch/Brick Lane
- British museum
- Tate Modern
- Camden (markets)
- Westminster Abbey
- Buckingham Palace
- Big Ben
- Hyde Park/Kensington Gardens
- Cable cars (Greenwich/Royal Victoria)

Yes the Weather matters
so maybe just go there in person
if the weather gets good
to say you did not book as unsure
on the clouds etc.

St Paul's area in the City has lots of iconic buildings, Kew Gardens, Hampton Court, Theatre district, Olympic Park, Westfield For a Shopping or Oxford Street, Chinatown, Carnby Street, depends what you like doing really, get yourself a Berlitz guide book they are brilliant for City breaks

The City Bus tours where you hop on and off and include a river trip are good value as well, they start near Marble Arch

Also Tower of London, and Tower Bridge walk along by the river as it gets dark is lovely

Most of the good places have been named, I'd definitely say Leicester Square, the Olympic Park, Houses of Parliament (you can even pay for a tour if that's your kind of thing, I found it interesting), Hyde Park are all worth a visit

If you're really into TV you could always head to New Broadcasting House (the BBC) and pop into the Media Cafe, you can look out onto the newsroom and it's pretty cool :laugh:

Mostly yeah, you'll probably just get better offers/less waiting time potentially if you book in advance.

Most stuff you can roll up be prepared tfor a long queue for MadMe Tussauds though

we have about 3 days so hoping we'll fit a lot in

The Sky Garden (if the weather is good) - 360 deg view on the city and free when pre-booking (unlike the shard). I loved it.
Covent Garden
The south bank (the city hall is my personal favourite area) basically from the Tower all the way to Tate - a wonderful path to walk
Kew Gardens - not in the centre but I fell in love with this place last June
Borough Market
And the usual places - Westminister, The Palace and co

Ooh lucky! There's a cute little shopping centre nearby called The Brunswick which is worth a checkout too

Buses are a really good way to explore the city as well (get on a double decker at the front), plus they're super cheap (£1.50 for a journey). Make sure you've got an oyster card or contactless card if you're doing that or making tube journeys etc.

was wondering this. we'll be using the tube a lot i think so can we get a weekend pass or something and where do we get it?
amsterdam had one for like 20 euro

You can deposit oyster cards in some of the lycamobile off-licence shops around London and then get your money back at the end of your stay. You can also buy them at most underground stations.

Everybody's mentioned the main attractions and landmarks. I'd also say St Paul's Cathedral and The Gherkin. Covent Garden and Leicester Square are lovely. A lot of nice restuarants and little markets there. The latter, in particular is very nice at night.
