do you think politically incorrect jokes are ok?

it's surprising that there are so many videos on you tube etc of offensive
jokes

is that acceptable? you might think that with current emphasis on being
'politically correct' such routines would be no more

personally i think that jokes are not real life and are perfectly ok...no-one
seems to complain about authors describing serial killers etc

I suppose it depends on the joke, I'm not usually offended by politically incorrect jokes, South Park's one of my favourite shows and they make incredibly offensive jokes sometimes, but they're usually making a point with it, it just depends on the context of the individual joke I think.

Jokes are fine.
I think a few too many people use 'omg its just a joke' to get away with being a dick though.
If it was just a joke, it would be obvious to all, when its not obvious, you're a poor joke-teller and should avoid doing it so often.

...............obviously thee are limits

...............i believe most value an ability not to take oneself too seriously and
to be able to laugh at our own faults /insecurities etc

...............with some commentators that appears to have been lost

it depends who is telling them

Yep, comedy should have no boundaries.

What I actually find rather amusing is that the people who purport to be champions of 'free speech' are more often than not those who were/are outraged by the likes of Frankie Boyle, calling for him to be banned from television and whatnot.

You. Could. Not. Make. It. Up.

is that microsoft paint fantasy supposed to be funny though

We live in a joke world.
We prolong the life of murderers and yet we wont pay for tablets that prolong the life of cancer sufferers'.
Footballers get a hundred grand a week for kicking a ball about but a nurse gets worked into the ground for peanuts.

It depends on the intent and how it's done. Satirising bigotry is fine but championing it isn't.

I got thrown out my local last night during the quiz night.

When a question asked to describe the word niggling.

I dont think a little brown baby was the answer.

That's true and I think is an important distinction, I think a lot of people tell controversial 'jokes' that aren't actually meant to be funny, or at least not primarily, they're just trying to make a dig at someone or a group of people, and then when offence is caused they complain about 'PC culture', and it's very different to satire.
