apparently there is some intelligence about it, but I don't get it as if the airport scanners won't pick it up why would the hold be any different.

Unless they're afraid that they could be used to remotely set off something mid air? I don't know, I'm not very technical :laugh:

There were no laptapos or ipads when 9/11 happened so idk what they think they do

Ipads didnt exist back then

I think it's more that something set up and ready to go would be detected going into the hold, whereas the component parts of a device might not. If it's in the hold no one can touch it, but if it's carry-on someone could, in theory, hide in the bathroom and assemble something mid-flight.
