No. Modern wars are about who has the best tech and the most bombs, untrained conscripts are useless to a modern military.

National Service was a thing back in the days of WW1 and 2 but, like TS said, it would not be profitable or practical for the military to conscript untrained civilians en masse. The training costs would be astronomical considering the technlogy angle.

doubt there would be much need for infantry in a war with Russia or anyone else really, it would be all fighter jets and bombs

I hope no one is suggesting those from the gay community should be exempt from conscription. Sexuality and gender are two different things. I think many would like to think they weren't suited to it for many reasons.

It would make a mockery of equality.

I have no doubt that plenty of people are willing to enjoy the freedoms that were fought for by others, but not quite so many would be willing to fight themselves.
