11 TV characters you could remove without anyone noticing

Posting this because I think it'll be controversial on here and I can see some discussion coming from it!

3. Phoebe/Joey from Friends

Okay, this is going to be a controversial one, we know. And it's not because we hate either actor's performance. Lisa Kudrow and Matt LeBlanc were great on the show. But you don't need both of them.

Phoebe and Joey are both naive, secondary characters who were used to either advance the plot (without really giving them major arcs of their own – neither of them develop much over the course of the show), or to get some sort of extreme reaction from their main pals when they say something ridiculous.

If Phoebe didn't exist, Joey could step in. If Joey didn't exist, Phoebe could take his place in the narrative. Seriously, name one significant thing Joey did that didn't involve kissing Rachel (which felt super-weird) or anything Phoebe did except have babies that were instantly taken away from her. We'll wait.

4. Dale - The Walking Dead

Poor old Dale. Established as a significant character, bogged down by season 2 scripts that basically had him delivering the same speech over and over again, then chomped by a zombie Carl couldn't be bothered to kill: his was an ignominious arc.

According to reports, Dale actor Jeffrey DeMunn became a bit, um, difficult on set after his pal (and Walking Dead creator) Frank Darabont was fired from the show, which could explain why his character – who has a far longer run in the comic – was removed early.

But, as literally no-one ever mentions him anymore, he could have been edited out of those early seasons – especially season 2 – without losing anything important. Except maybe his RV.

Like we said, poor old Dale.
There's more in the article I just think these two will be the most controversial!

They dislike Phoebe. bias ****s.

T* 12-04-2017 08:52 PM

if pheobe or joey wasnt in friends i wouldnt watch

Calderyon 12-04-2017 08:53 PM

Without Phoebe and Joey they show would be at least 50% less funny. All of the main cast are essential to the show. DS is showing their stupidity. Well, one editor tbf.

T* 12-04-2017 08:54 PM

like of course people would notice if they're the fan favourites and the ones that make the show go into the sitcom genre

Jason. 12-04-2017 08:55 PM

I agree with Joey as he was virtually the same as he was in the first episode by the time the show had ended but Phoebe is easily the funniest character.

Phoebe are Joey are integral parts of Friends

They could have picked pretty much half of TWD cast for that too, moving on from death on the show is a big part of the actual show...

DS stated Phoebe sucks all the time and will shade her at every opportunity they get

Cal. 12-04-2017 08:56 PM

In regards to Dale, I find it funny how they mentioned him when there's PLENTY of characters in TWD that were unimportant (Morales and his family, T-Dog, Patricia, Jimmy, Gabriel etc) but they pick Dale?

They're all jealous of her in the Friends Gripe thread too

Cal. 12-04-2017 08:59 PM

I swear DS ALWAYS has F.R.I.E.N.D.S articles on the front page despite hating all the characters? I swear they always say they're terrible people.

they found a cracked video saying that so they've taken that opinion on board as their own bc they're unoriginal twats

I hate the 'dumb acts' on tv but Phoebe and Joey are good with it. (it's overdone on every show now) but they are the reasons why i laugh so much when watching it.

Marsh. 12-04-2017 09:02 PM

If there was no Phoebe in Friends, it would lose some of its funniest moments which as a SITCOM would be a terrible thing.

Calderyon 12-04-2017 09:05 PM

All of them (main cast) are essential tbf. Remove one of them and the show is much worse than it was previously.

Cal. 12-04-2017 09:05 PM

I bet DS loved that time Rachel dragged Phoebe with 'You lift right out!' when they were talking about who would be the first to leave the group :(

His character was "removed early" because he quit :idc:

Their final appearance came in 'Expose', an episode considered the show's nadir by many fans (it's between that and Jack's tattoo episode, 'Stranger In A Strange Land').

It's hated because it contributes nothing to the plot – main characters don't appear, mysteries aren't established or resolved – and it seems to only exist to set up an in-joke about what a mistake it was to introduce the characters in the first place
Um, loads of main characters appear. They're just not the main focus (which was actually a refreshing change for a one-off) :idc: AND IT'S EXPOSÉ, NOT EXPOSE.

They can ****ing leave Angela Darmody alone too, the cads. :idc:

Christ, I'm turning into Marsh :worry:

PARDON :oh:

Phoebe being a secondary character is a myth, she was the star of the show! And Lisa Kudrow is also the most talented one of the cast which she doesn't get nearly enough appreciation for, her history in The Groundlings and her work on The Comeback and Web Therapy... so underappreciated.

Cal. 12-04-2017 09:09 PM

Ugh when they got Phoebe back with Mike in the end instead of David and then wrapped up her story with their wedding before the series finale </3

She was the STAR of The Last One mind.

Calderyon 12-04-2017 09:09 PM

In my mind all 6 of them were the stars.

I ended up reading two different articles from the link you gave, one titled "Why Phoebe is the worst friend" and the other being "25 time where the Friends are horrible people"
