Downloading illegally

With that big heated debate we just had in Graphics, I think a debate should be made.

What are you opinions on the following being downloaded/copyrighted illegally:

Computer operating systems
Computer software
Computer Games
Copyright images
Console games
Television progammess
Radio programmes
Films
Music Videos
Books

Is it right? Wrong?
What can we do to stop it?
Should it be made legal?

Mrluvaluva 07-04-2007 10:32 PM

It will never be made legal, because the music industry lose so much money over it.

Arneldo 07-04-2007 10:34 PM

I'm in two mindas about it.

In one hand i think that the musicians have a right to get the money for people actully buying it. But, on the other hand, why is it illegal to download but not illegal to record off the radio? Just seems rather silly.

I think its legal to make copies of things on the radio because of the low quality of recording. Its high quality recordings that are illegal.

But, with CD recorders coming in now people are able to record of the radio perfectly.

I know.... its all so grey at the moment..... and of course we now have DAB radio too so thats more clear aswel.... its all a bit mixed up really

Red Moon 07-04-2007 10:42 PM

I think we should expand the debate about downloading Illegally. The list should include:

Computer operating systems
Computer software
Computer Games
Copyright images
Console games
Television progammess
Radio programmes
Films
Music Videos
Books

basically anything that has copyright.

I don't pay for music. I'm a thief.

Mrluvaluva 08-04-2007 11:46 AM

Is recording something from the radio actually legal? I am not so sure.

Ditto

GiRTh 08-04-2007 04:03 PM

Me too. They make tons of money so if I can do it on the side. No problem.

Mrluvaluva 08-04-2007 04:48 PM

I think their main interests are against the people who share music. If you download it, do you move it out of your shared folder? If you do, then noone else can access it.

lily. 08-04-2007 04:52 PM

Yes, I move it, and I don't sell it on either. I move it into "My Music" and I listen to it on my pc.

Sometimes I burn it to disc for the car.

Sunny_01 08-04-2007 04:54 PM

Yer I just save it into my music - dont go in for all that sharing stuff was the youngest of 3 children I never had to share lol!

Like Stropz I sometimes burn a disc but usually just save it to my i-pod

lily. 08-04-2007 04:57 PM

The reason I have no moral objection to doing what I do is that I'm so tight that I wouldn't go out and buy the CD anyway. I'd just listen to Radio 1 in the car if I didn't have the music that I have, and I would just listen to stuff online when I'm at the computer. So basically, the music industry isn't losing anything because of my activities. I wouldn't buy it anyway.

MarkWaldorf 08-04-2007 05:11 PM

I'm not against it, as I download all the time. I download TV shows, music, and once I even downloaded a movie. It's wrong, I know. I download them using a legal programme, so I doesn't really bother me.

Sophii3x 08-04-2007 05:17 PM

I'm not that bothered with it actually. Even though my parents have never allowed me to download Limewire, to then download music and stuff, I don't have a problem with people who do. I know loads of people who download stuff illeagaly through sites and stuff, it's their choice. My friends do send me music that they have downloaded though, so that's good!

Mrluvaluva 08-04-2007 05:19 PM

Do you download it for free Markus?

MarkWaldorf 08-04-2007 05:45 PM

Yup.

Barry, why would he pay to download music and stuff illegaly!!

Mrluvaluva 08-04-2007 07:06 PM

Markus said he downloaded stuff using a legal programme. If he don't pay for iy, it ain't legal is it?

Chrizzle 08-04-2007 07:12 PM

Nope. I think all non-paying downloading systems are illegal.
Otherwise, they'd be no point of buying stuff would there?

Spot on Chris.

Tanser_Man 08-04-2007 08:34 PM

I don't really care, if i download something whether it's illegal or not and i like what i have downloaded... eight times out of ten i'll go out and buy that album, dvd, game etc.

If your buying an album you want to know if its a one hit wonder or an album of hits, and the internet is the best way for that, to make it illegal would be stupid and would be kicking themselves in the knackers.
