EU's $100 billion Brexit bill legally impossible

Quote:

EU LEADERS can’t legally enforce a huge Brexit divorce bill on the UK, its own lawyers have admitted.

Leaked minutes from Brussels show that leaders ignored advice and pushed ahead with plans for the hefty bill anyway.

The staggering bill is causing serious tensions already between Britain and the EU – before talks have even seriously begun.

According to The Sunday Telegraph, there have been serious divisions in Europe about whether to push the UK for money to quit the bloc.

And leaders seem to have ignored the advice of their own lawyers by asking us to cough up.

A source told the paper: “It was the clear view of the Commission that it would be legally impossible to defend the idea that the entire seven-year budget plan was a binding commitment on the UK, and that insisting the UK pay after Brexit would give them an excuse to walk.”

Brexit Secretary David Davis said last week there was no way we would pay anything like the amount being floated.

And he accused EU chiefs of trying to “bully” Britain with their negative briefings.

He insisted there was no legal obligation to pay anything at all – although Theresa May has said we can fairly settle things before we exit.

I think Theresa might need to consider warfare to sort these buggers out in Brussels. let's see how strong they think they are when we send a bomb their way.

Yep these talks arent going to lead anywhere, backed by America we can crush Brussels and Frankfurt. and then reap the rewards. Not a prolonged war, just set things back to the beginning.

incredibly beneficial to Britain, but also liberates all those poor 100s of millions Europeans under the eus dictatorship.

I'm not sure which is more delusional; the idea that America and the UK could "easily crush" the combined military forces of the entire EU... or the idea that America gives enough of a **** about the UK for such an alliance to be even vaguely realistic .

The EU is more valuable to the US than the UK is. By a gargantuan margin. Your perspective is so far off of reality that it's not even amusing.

They are jokers. They are'nt going to get anywhere near that much.It would be political suicide for May to give in to ridiculous demands. She won't go anywhere near that figure. The EU leaders need to be careful or we will possibly just walk away and they'll get nothing.

This is true and also most EU countries are our allies and would never go to war with us.Many would probably back us against say Spain. The idea that even three or four European countries would form a military alliance against us nevermind twenty seven is in the realm of Disney fairytales.
