Use JPG or GIF/PNG format for saving uploaded graphics - not BMP
 

Just at tip to save bandwidth and reduce page loading times...

If you are uploading a picture for the forum when you go to save it save in JPG or GIF (or PNG) format and not BMP format (which is uncompressed).

Photographs or banners that are part photo are best saved in JPG/ JPEG format (about a quality of 70 is fine, don't use max quality).

Pictures with a limited number of colours, like drawings or cartoons, are best saved in GIF (or PNG) format.

As an example a 780K BMP picture can be reduced to about 22K saved using as a GIF or JPG.
