Another question regarding Uni

Do you get the accodmation loan in year 2 and 3, my mum said you don't? :suspect:

I've never heard this before.

Wizard. 25-05-2017 04:34 PM

No as you won't get the money until you register on the first day of uni anyway.

yes, all it does is put the funding in place, if you don't enrol, it will just lapse, if you don't send the form off your application will remain incomplete.

Thank you so much for the help!

New question in OP!

Cherie 27-05-2017 01:45 PM

Yes you do but loans for maintenance are means tested if you include your parents income, so the less the income the bigger the loan essentially

Cherie 27-05-2017 01:45 PM

What uni have you applied to Will?

Ah okay, yeah I didn't apply for more. I think I'm getting like 4/5K for accommodation and a decent room is £135 a week which has a en suite bathroom.

I applied for Middlesex, Surrey and Hertfordshire.

I was mainly thinking Middlesex as I live close however Surrey looks beatiful and I didn't realise it was such a good uni, it is 4th in the 2017 Guardian university rankings so It would be silly not to go there I guess.

1-3 is

Cambridge
Oxford
St Andrews

Middlesex is like 78th, and my dads partner was saying it's not a very good uni and I should aim higher.

So Surrey is my first choice and that's were I would go!

And plus it's also a quiet uni and not so much about the partying which would suit me as I'm quite reserved and quiet myself.

I'm going to the open day on the 1st July which I'm looking forward to.

Definitely don't go off what the league tables mean. I mean yes there's an obvious difference between the top 20 and the bottom 20 but choose where you'll be happiest and getting a First from a lower down uni is better than a 2:1 at a higher ranking uni.

Yeah there's a significant difference between Surrey and Middlesex and Surrey seems far more suited to me. I should have gone to its applicant day but I wasn't really thinking of going there till the last couple of weeks, but the open day is close.

It was 4 this year, and I think it was around 6 in 2016.

It's in the top 10.
