BB18 cast will be diverse

Emma said:

"The housemates will be from all walks of life and a real cross section of people from across the country, which sounds like the perfect house to me - all ages, all backgrounds.

"It should bring some very interesting situations. I love the psychological experiment aspect to it and I think having all sorts of different ages and backgrounds there lends itself well to the original idea of the show. I can't wait!"

Will. 31-05-2017 10:15 PM

I'm optimistic after last year considering there were 4 people aged 40+.

Hopefully this means there a couple 60+.

Wizard. 31-05-2017 10:17 PM

Natalie Row ha return? I want loads of oldies. Nana Julie old.

Here for the messy grannies.

Bearing in mind we have to actually vote them in first

Flashbacks to BB14 where Emma was wetting herself over the "age range" and we ended up with Jemima, Jackie and a load of young ones

Denver 31-05-2017 10:24 PM

here for Vera Lynn

I kind of believe this considering last year was a big step in a "older age" direction. And judging by the fact we got the oldest winner ever at 45 and a social media favourite in Jayne, I'm not surprised about rumours of grabbing more people in the 40-50 range.

But aside from the "age", another interesting point is different backgrounds. Can we assume it will not be like Love Island then? Like BB12 and BB15. I hope so.

I'll be happy with working class, middle/upper class people. Around half of the HMs 18-30, three 31-40s, two 41-50 and three over 50s. But I hope they don't try and just cast older people just to "make people happy". I hope they choose decent ones.

I remember the outrage during BB15 launch about the cast.

I'm pretty sure Rylan described the hms last year and the year before as being really age diverse too welp

Withano 31-05-2017 10:57 PM

Sounds promising. The diverse age range really worked last season, but I felt as if their personas werent starkly different to one another. They were for the most part - tarty, vain, wannabes so there wasnt much bouncing off each other or natural conflict

well seeing as about 4 were over 40 it was

rusticgal 31-05-2017 11:07 PM

I think older people offer more opinion and grounding. I would love to see a house full of 30-50 year olds who have opinions and conversation rather than nudity and fake romances...we want fun but we want conversation..opinions rather than bed hopping wannabes...:cheer2:

They were in BB17, well it was a step in the right direction. 1/2 people 60+ would have made it really diverse.

T* 31-05-2017 11:44 PM

Not if the voting has anything to do with it tbh

Jason. 31-05-2017 11:45 PM

It depends on what you mean by diverse. I feel like a lot of people's idea of diverse is shoving in a bunch of old and ethnic housemates, whereas it's more about personality. BB5/6 in particular had very diverse casts because they were all so different and had contrasting personalities that were guaranteed to clash, despite having one housemate above the age of 40. Almost everyone in BB6 was under 30.

But then again, people will complain if it's "too diverse", I remember the outrage during BB10 launch.

"What is this, anything that isn't UK BB!"

Iranian (Siavash)
Americans (Cairon)
Indian (Sree)
Russian (Angel)
Pakistan (Beinazir)
Brazilian (Rodrigo)
Chinese American (Kenneth)

and then later on, Hira.

Alongside Irish Noirin, Scottish Karly, American Isaac

Bea, Charlie, Lisa, Freddie, Marcus, Saffia, Sophie, Kris and Sophia were the only English HMs. 9 out of 22.

Now, that is diverse. But I remember people kicking up a fuss.

How do you even forget David?

BB13's cast was crap on paper (One 40+ HM booted out Day 4, about thirteen 20-somethings who were models/dancers/promoters), but turned out to be amazing so I'm not that fussed on having loads of older housemates, they just need to have entertaining pesonalities like Jason said

Captain.Remy 01-06-2017 05:26 AM

I wouldn't take what Emma and Rylan are saying for granted. Too much hope.

little.lilly 01-06-2017 09:00 AM

"Diverse" =

one older housemate, but not too old, like 40max

TWO black girls, one of which will be voted out first.

A trans person, or maybe even a non binary person since the term has blown up in main stream media.

and 12 other people who've been on a multitude of other TV shows, and would of probably qualified for CBB only 5 years ago, but now the lines between celebrity and civilian BB's have been blurred to the point of being undistinguishable.

Time 01-06-2017 09:27 AM

Hopefully this means we get some older hms that are over 40.

DanielM787 01-06-2017 09:47 AM

Great to hear the lineup is diverse.

But i do agree we need older housemates who are like 60.

Julie and Kim have proved older people can be just of a hit as the younger ones

Brother Leon 01-06-2017 11:48 AM

Makes sense if they are pushing the Brexit thing that there will be oldies tbh.

UserSince2005 01-06-2017 11:54 AM

Maybe all the young people they want chose to do love island instead, lol
