Diane Abbott.

I have spent months and months calling her utterly incompetent. Wondering how on earth she hung onto her job for so long, nevermind being 'promoted' to home secretary. I welcomed this mornings news as I truly did think she was ****ing useless. And just now I have read the following.

https://cookingonabootstrap.com/2017...licit-content/

That is indeed an amazing track record

Did anyone else know she had actually achieved so much?! Not often I am totally gobsmacked, but I am now. and feel pretty bad for slagging her off for so long. I have only really been following politics for a few years and all I knew of her, she was just...crap.

smudgie 07-06-2017 06:08 PM

No thanks.
I have watched her over the years and the woman is a ruddy idiot.
That is one of the nicer things I can say about her.

Firewire 07-06-2017 06:11 PM

Because people don't give her the time of day because she makes mistakes in interviews

David Cameron didn't know the price of a pint of milk, and he was the prime minister ffs

Shadow Home Secretary Vicky.
Jeremy has given her more positions than she probably gave him:laugh:

Yeah of course  I am so bloody used to seeing threads/posts about her being home secretary if Corbyn did get in that its stuck in my head.

It wasn't the mistakes in interviews that made me think she was crap. I thought this long before this campaign :p

Does anyone expect a Tory MP to know the price of a pint of milk, really? :hehe:

Theresa May's obsession with slandering Diane Abbott has been worrying

Why! They are all giving as good as they get - why is it different for May.

No lies, I can't wait for Friday.
Enough of politics for a few weeks I think.:laugh:

I've always liked her, yeah she's been a bit of a liability this campaign but I think a lot of the abuse she receives is completely unfounded

I do believe she's ill too, she didn't look good in that picture of her at a tube station. Of course she needs to be scrutinised but I can't imagine this tumultuous campaign has done her health much good

TomC 07-06-2017 06:43 PM

I think she's had a horrible time this GE. Really nasty.

Greg! 07-06-2017 06:45 PM

I don't think she's ill. She's probably sick of all of the nasty abuse from the media and can't be bothered anymore. Which is fair enough imo.

MTVN 07-06-2017 10:57 PM

She's achieved a hell of a lot and she's overcome a hell of a lot. She was promoted to a role she that she hasn't fulfilled well in shadow home secretary but that's only because she's one of the only ones who have supported Corbyn from the start and been prepared to serve in his administration. That's why it's now pretty galling that she's been thrown under the bus by the Corbynistas and suddenly been blamed for his campaign losing credibility. There would be no Corbyn campaign without Diane Abbott.

I hope you aren't calling me a Corbynista here Matt D:

I have been critical of her since long before I even knew who Corbyn was

Nor do I. I've never bought an individual pint of milk, and I always buy milk with other shopping, so I've never really noticed how much the bottles (they're not really bottles, what are they called?) cost.

Ha nah I wasn't referring to you or anything on here, more what I've seen on Facebook where the people who have always massively championed Corbyn now turn on Diane Abbott for the pitfalls in his campaign when he wouldn't be where he was without the support of people like her

James 07-06-2017 11:21 PM

Some of the other people Corbyn employs are pretty dodgy.

Seamus Milne is his press guy (so basically he would be as important to Corbyn as Alistair Campbell was to Blair), and Milne has defended Stalin's regime, and said Nato was to blame for the war in Ukraine and Russia taking over Crimea. He's really pro-Putin.

Corbyn's campaign manager is a guy called Andrew Murray (no, not the tennis player) from 'Stop the war' group and has praised North Korea, and wrote and praised Stalin, and was a member of the Communist party until Corbyn employed him in 2015.

The Shadow Chancellor John Mcdonnell quotes Chairman Mao's Little Red Book in the House Commons etc.

DemolitionRed 08-06-2017 06:35 AM

I was aware of her achievements but I have a bit of a persona bias. A friend of mine used to work for her and had a nervous breakdown because Abbot was, in my friends words, "an intolerable bully".

She's clearly a highly intelligent and capable woman but tends to leave a wake of discontent and misery amongst her staff (according to my friend) and knowing how outgoing and intelligent my friend is, I can't help but not like the woman.

I doubt it - it's just a ploy to get her out of the way at this crucial time to stop her damaging their chances if winning any further. You watch, if they win she will be Home Secretary by Friday and Britain is **ck**.

Yeah this stuff has been putting me off the Corbyn Labour party since he became leader. He was even the chair of the STWC i believe.
I don't like nearly any of these Labour front benchers tbh.

I just had to vote Labour on policy alone as they definitely won't win the personality battle.

Northern Monkey 08-06-2017 04:14 PM

I've never liked abbott.Could'nt stand her for years.

If she is ill though i wish her well.
