Big Brother RIP

For me, Big Brother is dead and I will not be watching.

I thought I would give this year ago having been a fan since the first series in 2000. Sadly, there has been no change to the selection.

I believed that we would have housemates from all across the UK. Instead we had housemates from England and Wales and 6 have appeared in reality TV shows before.

It goes against the very premise of Big Brother as a show. During the Channel 4 days potential housemates were selected from audition tapes and then later auditions which were held in different cities around the UK.

Now they seem to be sourced from talent agencies and that for me is the reason as to why viewing figures are going down. We are not getting a true cross section of society.

I fear this will be the last series of the main Big Brother as viewing figures are declining rapidly. It is as if producers do not have a vested interest in this part of Big Brother any more.

The same could be said for Big Brother. "Celebrities" going into the house are from MTV shows, gone are the days of Channel 4 when we had Jermaine and Latoya Jackson.

Im enjoying the cast, but I agree with this.

If the show can survive its bb12s bb15s bb16s it can survive what looks to be a series better than those.

I agree the OP a proper civilian BB with the guarantee that no participants had previous TV form, connections or agents would i suspect prove just as interesting and far less disillusioning.

I can confirm for sure that most reality TV shows use people from talent agencies because I've been asked to apply for a few in the past. Never Big Brother though which is disappointing because I've always wanted to go on. I know I can apply anyway but through a modelling agency it certainly ups your chances it seems. I don't think it's a bad thing putting models in but half the house shouldn't be from that background and I don't agree with people having reality TV experience already either.

Every year though I fear it'll be the last and every year it is back on again. I personally will probably blindly watch and enjoy Big Brother for as long as it's on though because I've been watching since the start!

I'm actually enjoying this year so far though. Things will kick off soon as they won't all be best friends for too long! I can't wait for that.

I'm still enjoying the series, but a few housemates are *issing me off a bit lately.

Yeah it's a shame BB has gone down this route as it could be so much better if they stuck to the original formula. I am the only person I know who is still watching the show compared to when it was on channel 4. I feel as though BB has been cheapened and lost its original premise.

The American BB has got the formula right, it's the same show as it's always been from the start. Cast are normal people and the show is still thriving with decent viewing figures. Channel 5 need to rest the formula and add some class back into BB.
