Police allegedly threaten to arrest business owner for anti terrorism sign

I'm all Tommy Robinson'd out for a good year or so. Is there an article on the subject or something?

Jian Yang 21-06-2017 10:47 PM

I must admit, i don't see the problem here?!

It's an off license. Off licenses are often owned by people of middle eastern / Pakistani origin. This one is clearly owned by a white person, who has chosen to suggest that people should shop with him, as shopping with his competitors might be "funding terrorism".

Ok, i get that, but where is the problem? It's a gimmick, he owns the business and he's not offending anyone in particular so i don't see the problem at all tbh!

I think his competitors might be a BIT offended about being branded terrorists because of their race? I mean just throwing that out there as a possibility.

You don't see the problem with calling other shop owners terrorists?

This has nothing to do with Race though? Terrorism comes in all forms.

When did he do that? I must have missed that part?

Northern Monkey 21-06-2017 11:51 PM

I don't think it's a wise move from the shop owner. It's going to create more division and probably get vandalised. He's obvs done it to get more business but I can't see it being long before he ends up in court. It is kind of indirectly implying that other shops are funding terrorism.

Livia 22-06-2017 09:18 AM

The interesting thing for me is that, the same people in here being all offended on someone else's behalf, will be the same people on the "no whites day" thread, saying that's a tradition/it's not racist/everything's fine with that.

This man's sign is a very poor and rather racist joke. He should be told to take it down or paint it out.

bots 22-06-2017 09:30 AM

Its a political message in a shop sign that is designed to incite confrontation. Of course it should be taken down

user104658 22-06-2017 09:35 AM

Is Tommy Robinson thick or just disingenuous by the way? I've only just watched the video but he keeps bleating on like people have a problem with a sign that says "don't fund terrorism".

Is he stupid or deliberately overlooking the fact that it says "Don't fund terrorism - Shop at Fletchers!"

And before anyone starts arguing that they are two separate statements - the owner FREELY ADMITS that that's the message. "I heard that certain other shops were funding terrorism, so shop here if you don't want to fund terrorism".

Kizzy 22-06-2017 09:36 AM

The problem is inference.. that causes untold problems. It has been brought to the fore recently by JK Rowling specifically. Sometimes it isn't what is said directly that can incite extremists.

Good for him looking for a marketing angle to drum up trade

the other thing is that if you are going to say it in a sales context, then there has to be some sort of certification process that he isn't funding terrorism.

Is he absolutely certain that at no point in his supply chain for any goods that he stocks in his shop, there are no links to terrorism funding? If he's not, he is breaking the law by stating it.

I put a comment on that on youtube and it was held on to for approval. Tommy Robinson does not show negative comments and that makes it look like he gets a lot more support than he does.
