Authorities arrested a pregnant Minnesota 19-year-old for fatally shooting her boyfriend in a bid for YouTube fame gone wrong.

MonaLisa Perez was charged with second-degree manslaughter Wednesday in the death of 22-year-old Pedro Ruiz III, the Star Tribune reported.

Around 6:30 p.m. Monday Ruiz held up a book while Perez discharged a .50-caliber gun outside their home in Halstad. The pair had been trying to see whether the bullet would go through the book, according to a criminal complaint. Instead, the bullet struck Ruiz in the chest while the couple’s 3-year-old daughter watched on.

Ruiz’s aunt, Claudia Ruiz, said it was part of stunt the couple intended to share on YouTube.

“They were in love. It was just a prank gone wrong,” she told the Twin Cities Pioneer Press. “I wish they wouldn’t have done it. I wish he would’ve just done another prank. He was so young. He had so much going for himself.”

Perez has a YouTube channel that boasts a series of clips she had her boyfriend made together, including their most recent video, “Doing Scary Stunts at the Fair Part 1.”

“Imagine when we have 300,000 subscribers,” Perez says in the video.

What fool thinks a bullet won't go through a book? :skull: Tragic for the 3 year old that had to see :(

people do crazier and crazier things for youtube popularity.

A couple we know do some crazy pranks on each other and have gained many thousands of followers. I and many others stopped following them when they started making suicide stunt videos. Two, otherwise lovely people, using tragedy and bad taste for their own vanity, cries of desperation. I guess popular media drives some people to stupid.

That is irrelevant to the topic on hand.

It was a right winger who killed Joe Cox and those people outside the mosque a few weeks back

Oh yeh i heard about this, Philip DeFranco done an excellent summary of it

From 9:17 onwards

They uploaded videos like 2 days before his death with him saying stuff like how he wants to get huge on Youtube, and hed always mention ways that it could happen.... Im not sure if this is controversial (I dont think it is, people see that this woman never wanted to kill right?) but I dont think she should be in prison. It was a mindless mistake by two famehungry people. Its a tragic accident, that was spurred on by the victim himself.

Its heartbreaking but taking her away from her kid(s) and into prison just doesnt sit right withh me :/

I totally see both sides of the argument.. i just feel as if she was a bit pressured into it perhaps, I have sympathy for her. Ironically, its almost as if she done it out of love for her boyfriend (and his passion)..
