A BBUSA format in the UK - a possibility?

Channel 5 seems to be experimenting more and more with some seemingly BBUSA aspects - The Void, backdoor evictions, housemates vote etc.
Channel 5 are owned by Viacom who I'm pretty sure are well connected and have a stake in CBS, the broadcaster of BBUSA.
Combine this with declining ratings and BBUSA seemingly getting an increase in worldwide interest, do you think there's a possibility that they may ecperiment with a whole series of BB with the BBUSA format? I think there may be.

I really need to watch one of the USA series. Its talked about so much and I have no idea about it besides apparently they don;t have a public vote and its all about gameplaying. I should like it as I tend to like the gameplayers in our series and fine it crap when someone coasts their way to the final then wins just for being quiet...

The fact raph was cast as the game player and how he was clear with his interests in BBUSA and CAN might be part of this too, idk

I honestly don't think so. Firstly C5 and the current production team don't have an ounce of sense between them, they don't even know how to execute a 'surprise' eviction let alone implementing a format change. And secondly, I'd imagine they rely on voting revenue even more so than they used to since it's so low.

They definitely should though, I cba getting into this debate again because it's been done ad nauseum on here and goes around in circles but my only argument at this point would be - this show is on its last legs and is on the way out, what do they have to lose by experimenting with a new format at this point? Bring in a competent production team (preferably BBCan's), throw a load of money at proper promotion (about the game ACTUALLY changing) and the task team, maybe increase the prize fund to £250k, consider having some public influence like a VTS to remove one of three nominees and a jury vote, and see what happens. If it doesn't work, fine, the show's over. If it does work, fantastic, there might be a couple of years left. If you don't try, the show's still over. It's win-win at this point.

not going to happen

I agree with your ideas completely and how the production team is a damn mess
They're rumoured to bring back survivor so I really do hope they bring in a good production team or that and maybe if they do it well ithe BBUS format could be something for those producers to work on as well.

Maybe for one series, and I’m not usually a traditionalist but the public vote makes BBUK BBUK x

You definitely should! I think you'd love it, I remember I always criticised the BBUS format (like Patrick) without ever having seen it. I gave the first season of BBCan a try when it aired and fell in love and then rewatched almost all the US seasons  the good thing also is they're not much of a commitment to watch, 30 episodes a season is nothing

That's one of my favourite things about the US format as well in that even if I don't like a player and they do well, I can at least appreciate that (for the most part) they've got far/even won on merit and have played a good game. That's far more deserving than in the UK where if you just sit in the house and say very little you might win the show

Annoying that with the CBS connotations they still won't broadcast BBUSA over here on 5Star or something

I would love to see 16 housemates from the UK go into BBUSA and 16 housemates from America go into the UK version. The 2 are so different and would be an actual social experiment again.

Nicky91 01-07-2017 03:57 PM

maybe it could be a idea :)

FwenchPussyCat 01-07-2017 04:11 PM

I think this is a possibility especially with the decline in ratings, if they look to cancel the show they might give the format a change to give it one last shot. I'm a big fan of the us format and would make the effort to apply if it happens. But I think also in terms of good television, you only have to watch Nedas eviction episode from big brother Canada this year to prove how exciting the show can be with this format.

Oliver_W 01-07-2017 04:28 PM

Maybe the Nominations could be carried out like BBUSA/Can, with HoH and PoV, but the public votes on evictions?

Tregard 01-07-2017 04:28 PM

If they're giving Survivor another crack and it works out I'd definitely see them giving the US format a try. However, they would need a couple of years off to establish the format change, otherwise you're going to get a really bastardised version that's just the US format with a ton of outside access and public votes.

pontyboi 01-07-2017 04:32 PM

They did try and do this on BB15 though tbf and it didn't sit well with the UK audience.

This idea has been floated before but I actually think it'd be worse than just keeping the format we have now. If the US format is implemented the one thing the public must not have direct control over is evictions, because it defeats the purpose of actually trying to play the game if who gets evicted is just determined on a whim of a popularity contest. The house and jury vote are the most crucial parts of the format.

I wouldn't be opposed to them having a VTS post-Veto to save one of three nominees before the house votes as normal, and for the UK to get a jury vote, but if the public still control the evictions they might as well not bother.

pontyboi 01-07-2017 04:38 PM

Just want to add aswell with no votes from the public Channel 5 won't be making any income from the show which lets be honest is what they care about. Can't see it happening.

Denver 01-07-2017 04:57 PM

Nobody wants it

BBUK-Fan 01-07-2017 04:57 PM

They need the public vote or people will complain and entertaining, controversial ones will go.

fitz2k2 01-07-2017 05:09 PM

its never gonna happen and I don't want it to happen

Denver 01-07-2017 05:31 PM
