BB18 Edgic Thread

SO it has recently been brought to my attention today that there at least two other individuals who have been doing edgic this series and I think that means it's time for an edgic thread :o :o :o

Me trying to decipher what this chart means

so let me break it down for everyone~

History of Edgic: Edgic, a portmanteau of editing and logic, was a tool devised in the early-mid 2000s used to help predict winners of the US reality TV show Survivor. Each contestant was assigned a rating for each episode they appeared in, and their ratings and edits were analyzed in an effort to predict who the winner would be. If you've recently entered the Survivor subforum, you've probably encountered people arguing about whether or not edgic discussions constitutes spoiler tags, mainly stemming from the fact that Michele, the winner of the spring 2016 season of Survivor, was one of the more obvious winners by edgicians and one of the more surprising winners to non-edgicians.

In terms of edgicing BBUK..... it's pretty pointless alol. Maybe someone else has a different perspective but to me, there's something therapeutic about assigning colored cells to reality TV contestants and using the composite rating to organize my thoughts and feelings and visually represent the series.

How Edgic Works: Each cell has two components - rating and tone. Rating is breaking down what type of content you had in an episode, while tone is breaking down how the viewers are supposed to perceive the content. There are mainly four different ratings and four different tones, and they can be mixed and matched.

Edgic Ratings: UTR ~ you more or less weren't in the episode, and if you were your content was either unmemorable or you were deliberately edited to be under the radar. Think of Sam Evans, Hira, most recently Charlotte, etc.
MOR ~ you're present, but not particularly dynamic. The content and airtime is there, but there is a lacking of personal insight or character development. You're middle of the road. Think of someone like Kieran.
CP ~ you are a complex personality. You're one of the main forces driving the narrative and we are learning and who you are as a person as you are providing your personal insight. Deana Uppal, Aisleyne, Aaron, etc. You can also throw in your obnoxious GAMEPLAYERS in here like Victor and nasty Nick.
OTT ~ over the top. I don't think this needs much explaining, BBUK pretty much rewrote the definition for over the top when it introduced people like Nikki and Charley and Kinga.

Edgic Tone: Neutral ~ we're not supposed to feel a particular way about you. Think like.... Liam or Karly or Laura McAdam.
Positive (P) ~ you're a protagonist and someone who the editors are explicitly telling us to root for. This is actually surprisingly rare due to the format of BBUK. Think of people like Brian Belo, Nadia, Luke A, Brian Dowling (hey they all won). If you're looking for someone who didn't win..... Samanda also work.
Negative (N) ~ we're either supposed to dislike you or love to hate you. Charley, Victor, Bea, Helen ****ing Wood, etc.
Mixed (M) ~ there are both positives and negatives to how you're presented. Due to the nature of BBUK, like 80% of the people end up with mixed tone. Nikki, Aaron, Aisleyne, Freddie, etc.

Any questions???

That's their level of visibility 1-5 depending how prevalent they are in the episode

Ah okay ty

Macie Lightfoot 05-07-2017 12:17 AM

*OH* the numbers let me explain

Visibility Numbers: They range from 1 to 5. 5 means you're super duper visible and 1 means that you're hardly visible. Some people believe these numbers are irrelevant, and I don't disagree, but I feel like my cells look empty without them. For Survivor people would literally count sentences and do crazy formaulas and all that ****ing bull****.

Epic. 05-07-2017 12:17 AM

I did mine by days AND weeks in order to try and gauge them by their 8 weeks. I update it daily

Samm 05-07-2017 12:18 AM

lol poor charlotte, out of interest who's the most UTR housemate edgic wise in any BBUK series?

BB10 Beinazir i think?

If we're counting CBB too though, that honor goes to Mutya from CBB6

Epic. 05-07-2017 12:20 AM

I admit I regret posting mine sooner but I've done it for every CBB series and could just do it with the next one of those :hehe:

Jason. 05-07-2017 12:22 AM

Ahh that makes sense

Would I be correct in saying Bear is an OTTN5

From a friend of mine who has edgiced every series of BBUK (could you think of a more tedious activity?), I believe he said his answer is Maysoon. I don't have a BB9 chart to confirm or deny this though. Based off of the charts I have though.... I might say Sam Evans? Beinazir didn't last a long time but the one edgic rating I gave her was UTR1 acol.

Most of the time yes.

I've actually saved every CBB edgic I've done in separate Google Docs so I'll be happy to link you his poisonous edgic that he somehow won with :hee:

Ross. 05-07-2017 12:28 AM

I love these but I always have to go back and check what it means because I keep forgetting the codes

Macie Lightfoot 07-07-2017 11:43 PM

bumping this up in case anyone has any UPDATES. I missed some of the eviction bc of a ****ty live stream so I probably won't have my chart updated until tomorrow but like duh Sue is CPN this week I can already tell ya that.

DouglasS 07-07-2017 11:45 PM

It's a good chart and it's all very accurate. Only thing I'd say you've given Kieron greater visibility than he actually has however.

My edgic includes winner predictions actually. But I'll wait till the series ends to show and see how right or wrong I was

She didn't exist the entire week until the eviction episode where she dumped salt all over the kitchen counter.
