Baseball cap in restaurant?

I went out to a restuarant with a few friends today. I was wearing a baseball cap, plain white t-shirt, flannel shirt tied around my waist and some ripped jeans. Anyway, whilst waiting for our table in the restaurant, a waitress walked passed and asked me to remove my baseball cap. I said I didn't want to (I hadn't done my hair which was the whole reason I wore the cap) and she said we would have to be seated outside then so we did sit outside (my party were more than happy to join me).

Would you wear a baseball cap to a restaurant?

Crimson Dynamo 07-07-2017 06:32 PM

good for her

hats indoors is rude

at my golf club you would not get within 5 paces of the clubhouse with a cap on

TaylorCallum 07-07-2017 06:33 PM

I don't wear baseball caps but I don't think it's an issue at all. Why did she want you to remove your hat? It's a restaurant not a fashion show :umm2:.

If it's sunny outside and I'm wearing sunglasses I sometimes just leave them on when I go into shops or restaurants, some people think that's weird but I don't know why they care. If they don't like wearing specific things indoors then don't, other people can do what they like.

"Cal, take that thing off your head"
"I'd like to keep it on please"
"This is a restaurant, what part of that do you not understand?"

SHSGSGATAGGE

but seriously how rude where was it lovely

DouglasS 07-07-2017 06:39 PM

Times change. I think it'll be a generation opinion divide. Nowadays in lectures/meetings loads of people wear hats in doors, in classes also. Whereas I think people from different ages will have learnt wearing hats indoors is rude, whereas for younger people it's not seen like that.

I can understand if the restaurant was posh/classy though.

Like Douglas said below, it's probably a generational thing. I don't see it as rude at all - it's just a fashion choice. I wear caps out of convenience - it means if I'm in a hurry to get ready I don't have to spend time doing my hair.

I agree with you. If people don't agree with wearing hats indoors then don't wear hats indoors but let the people who want to wear hats indoors wear them.

Just some spoons knock off. Meal and a drink for like £6. It's classy in the evening though.

I agree with you. It's definitely a generational thing. Some people were brought up to believe hats indoors is a sign of ignorance/rudeness/disrespect and some people weren't. I understand some people will never go against their parents' values that they were brought up to believe in but I just kind of think people should be able to wear what they want.

It's got cheap offers on in the day (when I went) but it's a classy restaurant and bar in the evening. I didn't kick up a fuss I just said I didn't want to remove my cap and so she seated us outside.

She went Chanelle and clocked off your cap?

Crimson Dynamo 07-07-2017 07:25 PM

Its about standards

I dont think, for example, GMB should allow any person on their sofa in sunglasses. (hello the "Jacksons") also rude

People should not be served in a restaurant with no top on

you draw a line and stick to it

this is Britain

Quite the ringleader aren't we

Wizard. 07-07-2017 07:47 PM

I wore one in an exam and was asked to take it off (which is understandable) but if it was in a Restaurant I'd take my money elsewhere. Would they ask you to remove a Burkha, Hijab, or a Niqab?

absolutely

cults and superstitions have no place in public eating places

leave that crap at home

Josy 12-07-2017 07:07 AM

Wearing a cap inside a restaurant is rude, get some bloody manners.

Braden 12-07-2017 07:10 AM

Well, I see how you could get away with it at McDonalds, but if it was a nice restaurant then it only makes sense for you to be asked to take it off.

I would never wear a hat inside,it's bad mannered,

Vanessa 12-07-2017 07:45 AM

Does it really matter if you wear a hat or not? I don't think so, unless it's a fancy restaurant. Otherwise no one cares.

In your opinion and the way you've been accustomed to. I haven't been accustomed to that but I have manners. A tad rude to suggest I don't have them just because of a fashion choice.

So rude

Jake. 13-07-2017 11:01 AM

Another stupid "rule" that actually makes zero sense. Why is it rude? Nonsense, you wear whatever you want my love

jennyjuniper 13-07-2017 11:05 AM

I think it's polite to remove your hat indoors.

Cherie 13-07-2017 04:49 PM

Depends on the restaurant I was away recently with my sons they both wore baseball caps as neither had got their hair cut before we went, It used to be considered rude but like elbows on tables we are not in the 1950s and as long as the place hasn't got a dress code I don't see the issue

I love Nickelodeon stars circa 1996.

Babayaro. 13-07-2017 05:23 PM

I don't see the problem tbh. I would wear mine to a restaurant.
