[Anne Marie Morris is facing calls to have the Conservative whip removed from her over a comment she made at an event attended by Brexit-backing MPs.

In an audio clip recorded by the Huffington Post website, the Newton Abbot MP is heard using the phrase "the real n***** in the woodpile".]

they should take her Whip away

oh that's the constituency next door. How tragic.

Wizard. 10-07-2017 10:03 PM

It's just totally unnecessary and nobody should use it especially a publicly elected servant who knows their every word is being watched- not only is it wrong but you know it's going to bite you in the ass.

Northern Monkey 11-07-2017 09:55 AM

Well that was silly of her wasn't it

JTM45 11-07-2017 10:24 AM

Never mind suspending her. Sack the scumbag immediately.

That's the level that so many of these old-fashioned Tory dinosaurs are at. They have no place running our Country.

Niamh. 11-07-2017 10:28 AM

What does that phrase even mean? can't believe there are still some dinosaurs around who think that type of language is fine................

Northern Monkey 11-07-2017 10:32 AM

Apparently it's a real expression.I've never heard it before.

Niamh. 11-07-2017 10:36 AM

It must be years old.Like a 19th or early 20th century. This woman must be from one of those rich posh families who still talk in ye olde English.

Kizzy 11-07-2017 10:47 AM

It means a hidden agenda, no wonder the tories use it regularly :idc:

Abit close to the bone these days.

Northern Monkey 11-07-2017 11:01 AM

Just watched something that explains the origin.Apparently escaped slaves in 19th century deep south America where they would evade capture by hiding in woodpiles.

Livia 11-07-2017 11:11 AM

There shouldn't be anyone left in public office who thinks language like that is acceptable. I'm always shocked when someone seemingly intelligent blurts out a phrase like this. However, before Labour get all bent out of shape about it, I would remind them of the fact that anti-Semitic language was used by them, and they got Sharmi Chakrabarti to say there was nothing to see... and made her a dame to say thank you.

Kizzy 11-07-2017 11:45 AM

Dear me same old tit for tat rubbish. It's not Labour getting bent out of shape about it. There was plenty to get bent out of shape about from the 'north London metropolitan elite' in the right wing press during Millibands campaign... but that's not the issue here.
