Ellie has mentioned it a couple of times though and also, didn't one of the girls say to Issy that she thought Sam fancied her as well (I can't remember who though)

Yeah but he was stuck between a rock and a hard place with Ellie the moment he stepped through the door. She latched on to him before he could even decide whether he did actually want to be with her. Before they even kissed her and the boys were warning him not to mess her around

Isabelle is probably his usual type so is feeling attracted to her. Ellie was just a way for him to have a storyline.
