Reasons why BB18 is floppng in ratings

Say why the ratings are awful

1. Big Brother do not know their viewing audience, they have a mixture of different generations and not just one. They have got loads of people from EOTB and weekender this season which is what the young generation would watch not the older generation so it's quite off putting for them. Love Island knows their target audience which is completely different to big brothers audience.

2. Love Island exists

Lstan 11-07-2017 10:21 PM

Hmm...and here was me thinking its because of boring housemates.

3. The producers are completely ignoring the needs of their fans. They think all fans want is showmances, dramz, and some other toxic stuff yet that's what turned people off. Almost EVERYONE wants it to be more basic and return to its roots and it's just not being taken on board

supertv247 11-07-2017 10:22 PM

4. Terrible scheduling. Why the **** did they lunch at half 8 against Corrie? It was all down from there

I think boring tasks are high up on the list too. Some tasks when BB was on C4 brought even the dullest of housemates to life.

5. People just aren’t interested in BB anymore. E.g: Had BB18 aired in place of BB15, it would’ve got bigger ratings than BB14 imo

Jason. 11-07-2017 10:24 PM

6. Because the show has declined in quality even more in the last few years and its driven away what was left of the hardcore fans that were still watching.

sis no, stop trying to act like this series is great. It's just okay.

Kazanne 11-07-2017 10:27 PM

Too many Towie types, need a better mixture of ages ,BB need to go back to basics,no outside influences and BB need to stop with the z listers.

Lmao, not to mention I can't imagine a series filled with EOTB rejects and reality stars being the highest-rated C5 series if it were to have aired three years earlier when the housemates being on the "cusp of fame" was one of the major turn-offs in Power Trip.

Macie Lightfoot 11-07-2017 10:34 PM

yeah everyone complained about BB15 feeling like a bunch of Apprentice rejects, and then BB18 just decided to mold all the fifth boots from the Apprentice into one and call it "Rebecca Jane" which is for suuuuure not her actual last name.

That’s my opinion!

The producers are the main issue, i also dont think it helps that the shows format is getting tired. The producers really dont know what their fans want nor do endemol . Every year we go on and on at Big B on twitter or facebook to change it up and be more strict and go back to basics, put normal people in and stop with the z-listers but they just dont listen. I agree that they seem to think we want to see love island 2.0 and we dont. I hate love island i think its a load of crap same for Ibiza weekender and ex on the beach. But they seem to have specifically put those types of people in thinking they will pull in the younger audience and its backfired. So many of my friends have ditched big brother for love island this year, even i have missed an episode here and there and anyone who knows me knows i wouldn't normally do that. If they want to get viewers up air the show during the winter when there is no direct competition. move Cbb to the summer and air big b civilian January time.

- Z-list talent instead of normal folk
- Showmances taking precedent
- shopping tasks losing importance
- producer manipulation
- no live feed

Well younger viewers seem to prefer the BB of old than these TOWIE shows anyway so I don't get where they get the idea from that TOWIEing every Reality Show is gonna pull in a younger audience?

But a thing that's definitely harming BB in the ratings is making the show too right wing, Big Brother in it's concept is a very left wing programme and it's best years on Ch4 which were BB5 and BB6 had people from wildly different lives to each other for the most part. Where as nowadays it's all straight, white Tory types, or in extreme cases UKIP types.

Well Love Island is a hit? which is basically the people who watch towie and stuff. Towie is also a rating success too.

Big Brother on Ch4 could pull in 5 to 6 million viewers on average when it was at it's peak, and we are still the younger generations that helped contribute to those ratings at the time.

Love Island pulls in 2.1 Million on average, it doesn't even compare imo.

SteveG2688 11-07-2017 10:51 PM

I think the main issue too is that alot of hardcore fans myself included still look at big brother as a "reality tv show" when in fact it isnt, its an entertainment show. C5 made a point of saying way back in 2011 when they took the show over that the show is no longer a reality tv show its an entertainment show and that is the shows main focus. Emma willis has said it herself that people need to view it as an entertainment show and not as a reality show. I think alot of us fans want the reality aspect back as in live feed, stricter rules/no outside world.

Firstly TV itself doesn't compare, not as many people watch TV now than they did then in general and so comparing viewing shares/percentages would make more sense.

Secondly Love Island is not on a main channel, it's on ITV2 and so it's not as widely promoted by being on one of the main channels and its not as accessible.

Love Island is the next craze for the younger demographic after Big Brother [BB ended at BB8/BB9]

LukeB 11-07-2017 10:57 PM

Love Island is on iTV2.....

That is fair, I just don't think that Love Island has the concept to appeal to a younger audience as much as BB can when it's on form.

And BB has the secret weapon of being able to appeal to older viewers, something that I think will end up killing Love Island when the viewers start getting older, it's a fad that will die very quickly.
