Star Struck - are you too shy to ask a celebrity for an autograph or a picture?

If you went to London and you were walking down the street with your Girl/Boyfriend, Husband/Wife and suddenly you spotted a Celebrity, would you walk up to her/him and ask them for an autograph or have a picture with them or even have a chat?

I went to London recently and I walked along Portobello Rd and my girlfriend noticed ex-Eastenders star, "Charlie Brooks", (Janine Butcher)

My girlfriend was Star-Struck and couldn't stop herself running after her and asking her for her autograph.

Charlie was really friendly in return and said, "yes".

Luckily my girlfriend had a camera on her and as Charlie's boyfriend was with her on the day, he took a picture of my girlfriend with Charlie.

It all happened very quickly. But it was a great experience for her. Sadly, I am much more shy and wouldn't dare ask!

Many people are happy to go up to a Celebrity, just like any other person and chat to them just like that. But, if you see someone famous and they are right there in front of you, it can make a shy person even more afraid of talking to a Celebrity.

Imagine bumping into Robbie Williams or Madonna, let's say?

Could anybody admit they would feel a little apprehensive

If I ran into my fave celeb,Paris Hilton, I wouldnt dare say anything.
1. Because I would be so nervous
2. I'd definately not want to bother a big celebrity

I've asked James Nesbitt for an autograph, and my sister asked Jordan for one (I wouldnt dare ask Jordan, just seeing her was cool enough for me)

So the answer is, depends who it is.

Sophii3x 22-04-2007 05:27 PM

Iv'e asked loads of welsh celebrities for their autographs. I'm always really nervous but are always really nice about it.

If I ever saw Paris or Nicole, I probably wouldn't be allowed to go near them because they have bodyguards and stuff. But if I did come face to face with them I'd just be star-strucked!

Bells 22-04-2007 05:30 PM

I don't get star-struck. Part of it might do with the fact that I'm not a HUGE fan of any celeb, and my life doesn't revolve around one or more celebs. Additionally, it's just the way I am. I actually really would go straight up to them and ask if I could. Maybe I'd cringe about it afterwards (as has happened regarding several things I've done in the past), but at the time it wouldn't phase me. They are people at the end of the day, so yeah if I had the chance I'd just ask pleasantly!

I agree with what you say, Chrizzle.

It does depend on who it is, that's for sure! I have seen loads of Celebrities in my life & know a few too. But those I have only seen from a distance, I rarely go up to. I met Ian 'H' Watkins last year, but my girlfriend is the extrovert and never holds back on autographs

If I saw Ant & Dec, let's say!! and I was in the same Shop that they were in, I would probably say, "Hi" or something? and may make a short conversation and ask for their autograph as I see on TV, they seem very friendly and nice.

If you imagine a Celebrity as they are on TV, then it helps.

But, if you don't really know and expect them to be aukward when asking them for a picture or an Autograph, then it probably won't happen, as shyness will take over.

Also, the bigger Celebrities have Paparazzi after them and some pretend to be fans and suddenly the picture that get's taken ends up in a Newspaper.

But if I met a Celebrity who I was really mad about, it would be harder.

They are just people like us so It would not bother me however big a star they might be.I've met a few famous people and got autographs and never really had any problem even when I was about 9 I went upto Gareth Southgate and got his autograph.

I don't see that there is that much to get nervous about.

It depends on so many things, Dan_

If you are with friends at the time and feel the urge to walk up to a Celebrity and dare to ask for an autograph or a photo with them? Maybe your friends would egg you on to do it?

Or, on your own and seeing a Celebrity that you are mad about and she is right in front of you and looking very gorgeous, but if you are not shy, then it is easy, I guess?

I take your point about the gorgeous celeb, that would be a bit different but I'd proably take my chance as you may never get to meet them again.I guess you have to try and block out your shyness in that case or end up regretting it.

Yep!

Just like Ruth.El said above about James Sutton.

If it really is your idol and he or she is so near, but yet so far, as shyness is just the way you are, then that chance could be missed.

I have known Celebrities and still know three or four. They are just ordinary people really, but there is still something that separates them from other ordinary people.

There are a few people who dislike Tony Blair, but if they had an opportunity to walk up to him, would they say how they really feel to his face?

Never have been.
Never will be.
I would never miss an opportunity to meet a star.

Bubs 23-04-2007 09:17 AM

I would ask I mean if you are polite to them they ar usaully very nice about it, the only time I was actually properly starstruck and did go shy was when I saw Robbie Williams in Convent Garden about 10 years ago so was very young. It was just before xmas and had gone with family to do xmas shopping. I didn't even notice him (he did have a wooly hat on) but my mum did and I was a HUGE TT fan so just had to say something so ran after him and just mumbled "Hi Robbie" he was sweet and smiled and back and said Hi but didn't stop or anything. I think he was hoping to try and not get mobbed so stopping would of meant he would be but I will never for get it lol.

I have seen a few like Jordan and some BB people as well and others but have not asked them for there autograps tbh just said hi.

lily. 23-04-2007 09:29 AM

I've never met anyone famous. I was once asked what I would do if I ran into David Beckham. I've been obsessed with him since his pre-Mr-Spice days, and yes, sadly, I still am!

I honestly don't know what I would do if I was to meet him though, cuz it would be such a huge deal. I would like to be able to say that I'd be polite, and chat to him and maybe get a photo or autograph, but I reckon I would most likely either stand and grin like an idiot, or launch myself at him stalker-style and get arrested for harassment. For his sake it's probably best that I don't ever run into him.

No not at all after all they are just people like us!

I once saw Ant (ant&Dec) on Northumberland Street with his now wife. I did not hesitate to get his autograph for my daughter and he was really sweet and chatted for a while.

I imagined that Ant & Dec would be easy to approach.

I think I would be less apprehensive to approach either or both of them.

My girlfriend would be in her element, if she met them

I know they just give off that air of being approachable don't they?

I say the autograph was for my daughter, but the chat was for me lol

Good post. I'd be the same. I've seen Noel Gallacher from across the streeat and my mate shouted hello to him. Amazingly he came over and just started chatting. It's great that he was so coll about it. They say the bigger the celebrity the nicer they usually are.

I agree, Sunny.

They do look approachable.

I remember when Madonna was filming "Shanghai Surprise" and somebody who was working in the studio asked her for her autograph and she said (NO) and got him fired immediately.... ( B i t c h )

I know how nice some Celebrities can be.

But a few wouldn't be so approachable.....Not that I would ask anyway. (not too bothered about autographs personally)

I saw an autograph of Emma Bunton from the Spice Girls sell on Ebay for ( 1p ) + postage

nodisharmony

lily. 23-04-2007 05:48 PM

Lmao @ 1p.. oh dear..

Sunny_01 23-04-2007 05:59 PM

1p is it worth that much? I would say the buyer will be getting robbed if they pay a whole penny lol

nodisharmony 23-04-2007 07:03 PM

Ebay has killed the price of Autographs.

Don't go paying big prices at film fairs. I have done that before.

Naturally it is cheaper to meet the celebrity in person.

I just looked on Ebay, (Completed Items) Emma Bunton isn't doing too well :sad::sad:

Three didn't get any bids at 99p each, but a few fetched around the £4 - £5 mark.
