Gender stereotypes to be banned in British adverts
Gender stereotypes to be banned in British adverts
was debated on GMBHD itv and LBC and Radio4 this morning "The move heralds the end of adverts showing women cleaning the family home while men fail to even use a vacuum cleaner." http://e3.365dm.com/17/07/1096x616/8...20170718003643 http://news.sky.com/story/gender-ste...verts-10952271 Sign Of The Times |

why is this in chat and games :conf2:
|
The principle behind it seems like common sense to me, it's embarrassing that in 2017 some people might believe that housework is 'woman's work'. Not sure it's actually something that needs banning though.

Sexist stereotype ads are bloody annoying. Not sure why it matters if its against men or women but I am not surprised your only issue is with the ones about men :idc: |

I don't watch ads now but i do remember the blokes were always seen as bumbling idiots trying to avoid the wrath of the wife when he'd done something stupid in the kitchen.Never really bothered me tbf.

Maybe I have bigger things to worry about than a bloke on the telly not knowing how to work a washing machine. Heck my step dad would find the operation of a washing machine akin to rocket science and hasn't washed a thing in his life. But, hey men are victims of everything so who am I to argue. |

I thought it dated all the way back to before the first world war tbh. |

And you stick to furiously arguing the toss about pointless sh*te that doesn't exist or mean anything and don't actually contribute to anything that matters in the real world. :pat: |

Women are still being portrayed as sex objects by the media not least in the entertainment industry, although I also blame women to some degree as many women play up to that image of themselves. Many female artists sell sex by selling their own sexuality to sell their music whilst many male artists also sell female sexuality to sell their music - they don't flaunt themselves. It's sad that in this day and age women still feel the need to do that especially highly successful female artists such as Rhiannon and many more. It doesn't do much for female equality - except hinder it. |
