age verification checks on porn sites to become compulsory

http://www.digitalspy.com/tech/news/...ment-rules-18/

Quote:

New rules to be implemented next year will force pornography sites to prove their visitors are over 18 by using age checkers.

The move by Theresa May's government is part of the recently-passed Digital Economy Act, the first sections of which were just laid out before MPs.

Sites which can be accessed in the UK will be required to install age verification systems by April 2018. This may involve sites asking people to enter credit card details, in order to prove they are over 18.
a MESS

I hate Theresa May. Bitch.

Greg! 18-07-2017 04:33 PM

Actually I'll be 18 by then anyway so not too bothered!

Of course, determined porn-seekers could still use VPNs or proxies to bypass their service provider, or attempt to get around the new law by using peer-to-peer file-sharing sites – many of which are blocked by ISPs for the illegal distribution of copyrighted material.

Although 16 would be a good compromise

The first of many laws she'll try to push through to censor and control information on the internet. Worrying times.

Their parents should do some actual ****ing parenting then and supervise them. There's enough programs and apps for parents to monitor and restrict what children can access on the internet, this is just an excuse to test what controls the government can get away with putting on the internet, they're just using parents' fears to blind them into agreeing with it.

Next will be surveillance measures that will be justified through liberal use of the word 'terrorism'. People are fools that will throw away their own rights without a second thought as soon as the government tells them a scary story. It's an insult to those that have died to give us our rights in the first place.

Shut gob

It'll never ever work, sites like pornhub or xtube are hardly going to be asking for credit card details and the most they'll implement is "confirm your age by putting in your D.O.B"

A good parent will limit an 8 year olds internet access so they cant. Forcing age verification checks isnt the answer to bad parenting.

Cant wait for corbyn to come back and get a landslide victory by making wanks great again.

You can have sex at sixteen but can't watch people have sex (on the Internet) till you're eighteen?

I can't wait for you two to become parents in your ideal word where a parental control button shields kids from all manner of nasties..unfortunately it is not the case, kids go on sleepovers, they go to school, they go to clubs, they cannot be supervised 24 hours a day no matter how easy you think that is and given they nearly all have a smart phone now its practically impossible unless you are advocating that smart phone use is for over 18s only.

8 year olds having smart phones and internet access IS a parental responsibility though.

I find the idea of anyone under 12 having a mobile phone absolutely ridiculous tbh.
