In Today Times Paper

Long Paper Review

£100 on the spot Fine
£1,500
or
Prison and soon G4S Prison

I back this

Livia 26-07-2017 10:32 AM

I don't back this. Where do they think homeless people are going to find money to pay a fine? Monumental waste of resources that could be put towards helping homeless people have a better future and a bit of stability.

Fire risk my arse.

Hopefully they will use this money to actually house these people
I hate how the homeless are just treated like stray animals

House them in what, I doubt in their current state many could maintain a home?

Firstly, don't SHOUT at me arista. And secondly... don't call me silly or I'll hunt you down and slap you around.

Wizard. 26-07-2017 01:03 PM

Erm they aren't going to afford the fines which means they'll go to prison which costs money = money the could be using to tackle the homelessness problem! It's not common sense.

Livia 26-07-2017 01:10 PM

I'm with Riley on this. The homelessness problem shames our whole country. Making them into criminals on top of everything else is madness.

bitontheslide 26-07-2017 01:22 PM

Don't see how a sleeping bag on a wet pavement is a fire risk personally.

I agree Livia with every word you have said on this.
Riley too.

This idea is plain crazy.

Tom4784 26-07-2017 01:38 PM

Honestly one of the dumbest things I've read in a long while. It's essentially fining people for being homeless.

It's stupid, callous and cruel.

Toy Soldier 26-07-2017 01:42 PM

£1500 :joker:. I mean there's a chance that a VERY small number will have £100 cash on them, occasionally... but the £1500 figure is genuinely hilarious. Most NON-homeless people couldn't afford to pay a £1500 fine .

VanessaFeltz. 26-07-2017 01:45 PM

YIKES if they had 1.5k they wouldnt sleep outside anyways...

Also stop being so self centered and heartless for once. Just because you were more fortunate in life doesnt mean you get to make calls about other people

It doesn't shame the country, it shames the government. This is just another example of the cull, social cleansing in progress.

Livia 27-07-2017 09:12 AM

No, this has nothing to do with the government. It's a decision that's been made by Oxford City Council... a LABOUR controlled council. So much for all-inclusiveness.

Put the energy and money wasted on this pathetic idea to other uses.
Cheaper and more logical to turn abandoned buildings into hostels for the homeless than paying to imprison these poor unfortunate people.
Whatever the reason people are made homeless they need help not persecution.

Quite right. No one should be on the street. I can't imagine what it must be like not to have a place where you can shut your door on the world.

LeatherTrumpet 27-07-2017 10:58 AM

the reality is that

1. they are a fire risk and the businesses complained

2. the council had to do something

3. this at least is something that they can do and it pleases the businesses and perhaps gives the police a good reason to shift them

4. business is more important than homeless people, probably a fact
