What should I do

So basically I'm probably not going to uni and that means my parents want me to get a full job.

My parents are really pushing it and are expecting me to be getting one right now without waiting till September to be 100% sure.

Like I really don't want to, I just feel that I'm so young and need to do something else whilst I'm 18. I don't even consider myself an adult tbh.

Even though I've got into uni and can get a scholarship I know it's just not for me really.

I love the idea of volunteering out in Africa at an animal sanctuary for a year as I think it would just be an amazing experience.

I kind of would like to get a job locally however I'd like to spend being 18/19 doing something I'll never really be able to do In the future.

Does anyone have any ideas/suggestions for a gap year?

Get a job and start paying rent. You can plan an adventure when you are earning

Will. 26-07-2017 06:13 PM

Maybe I could volunteer in Antarctica and look after all the little penguins.

Why don't you try a part-time or weekend job first instead of working full-time?

MB. 26-07-2017 06:15 PM

Yeah that's a good idea, although I really want to volunteer someone for 6 months/year.

You can't do that without a bit of money behind you.

Greg! 26-07-2017 06:17 PM

Hmm do an apprenticeship? My friend did it and now he's working at a bank aged 18 which is kind of a mess but kind of impressive.

Greg! 26-07-2017 06:17 PM

Idk how apprentices work or how you get one mind.

Wizard. 26-07-2017 06:17 PM

Uni is a doddle babes and will keep your parents off ya back!

Greg! 26-07-2017 06:17 PM

OR get a wee part time job while you decide what you want to do!

I recommend travel, but you shouldn't feel like you have to do it now. I'm sure there will be opportunities to do it in the future too. I first done it when I was 22. Do you have the money to do it now?

I'd personally prioritize travel and further education before selling yourself into the 9-5 life, unless you have the opportunity to land an incredibly good job.

Well you asked for advice, and getting a job is probably the best advice you're going to get.
