Money for my shift missing

So basically yesterday, I did a full EIGHT hour shift at work (with one fifteen minute break). My boss told me my wages from the previous work were in the box in the store room, I looked at the end of my shift and they weren't there. He started asking me had I picked them up and forgot etc. which I knew I'd not and he knew I'd not, he was just scrambling cos he was panicking. He told me he'd ring the accountant today and let me know but he's yet to inform me if he's phoned the accountant or not (it's only £35 but it's annoying cos it's a full eight hours shift pay that I may as well have not done).

I think personally, one of the staff have took it but idk. I'm going to ring him tomorrow and ask for his accountants number myself if he doesn't get back to me.

The reason I'm asking this is would you quit? I mean it's a pretty **** job anyway, I'm on minimum wage (£4.05), do ridiculous shifts like 7:30am to 3:30pm (with one fifteen minute break), get called into work sometimes the day before and now this has happened.

Daniel-X 30-07-2017 11:57 PM

I should add it's only part time too, I'm still at college full time.

Greg! 31-07-2017 12:01 AM

£4.05 an hour?? Isn't that like... illegal?
Also an 8 hour shift with ONE 15 minute break is trash.
And your wages going missing?

I would quit and find a new job if I were you, especially as you're at college and it's taking up so much of your time.

IMO look around for another job but don't quit until you have a new one (unless you REALLY hate it and it's having a heavy, negative impact on your life constantly)

Yeah this but I didn't know how to articulate it

Ugh that sounds awful, I'd be fuming. I did a job whilst at college and it was so draining but it was only for 2 months as they sacked me because I was "useless" :skull:

Is there anyone who you think could have took the money?

I'd perhaps try and find another job because you're too good to be robbed like this babes!

It's the new minimum wage (but you get money taken out your wages for 'stock', so basically if I wanted a bottle of water or a butty on my break it gets taken out my wages :skull:), the shifts are ridiculous I come home absolutely KNACKERED.

I'm going to start looking for one, my mum wasn't keen on the idea at first because she was like 'but it was nice of them to give you the job!' even though only like four people applied :skull: but now this happened yesterday even she said I should ditch the place.

It's literally a death trap in there too, there's no books with our records on, rota's are text to us so there's no record of us working there (cos we're paid cash in hand and he doesn't have our national insurance numbers), the electric goes out all the time, the friers for the chips/hash browns/sausages are crumbling apart it's a mess.

I'll stick with it for as long as I can, but if I don't get this money back for my shift I'll be quitting because it's an absolute disgrace. I'm going to start looking for other jobs tomorrow  but I get where you're both coming from because I was depressed when I had no job/money

Literally no idea, it's for my shift I did about two weeks ago and there's like twenty staff who work there (about two or three I haven't even met yet). I'm definitely quitting unless this money somehow ends up turning up.

Yeah I'd quit unless you really want the money (but they're not even paying you so :skull: )

Find a cute vegan cafe, I worked at one a bit last year, the staff and customers were a bit... interesting but they were very sweet, the pay was good and it was really clean. Maybe I just got lucky with that one

Daniel-X 31-07-2017 12:12 AM

I've worked there now for three months anyway and been aching to leave for about two :skull:

Jason. 31-07-2017 12:13 AM

Sounds like slave labour.

Get the money they owe you and if you're really not happy with working there (it sounds like you're not) then I'd quit and look for another job.

That sounds gorgeous

It's loads of work men and rugby lads that come into my cafe :(because it's on the middle of an industrial estate and near a local rugby ground) oh and quite a few lets just say politely, rough people, cos there's a council estate right round the corner.

What job is it? You can not work 8 hours with a fifteen minute break

Daniel-X 31-07-2017 12:14 AM

I'm penned in for:

8:00-3:00 on Saturday and 8:00-2:00 on Sunday but I won't be working either shift unless this money shows up

A kitchen assistant in the cafe (I make breakfasts, wash posts, basically a skivvy) it's run illegally (cash in hand, no books, no national insurance numbers for members of staff) so they don't care about the breaks. Loads of my friends that work at other places get like an hours break too on six hour shifts, it's so annoying.

Yeah definitely quit if the money doesn't up. Oh that's quite a lot of staff then, I hope it all works out! X
