Why are Summer CBBs so bad?

Obviously people will have mixed views on this, but I hold the view that Summer CBB is probably worse than the preceding civilian BB. But why? What do they do so differently for summer than they do for winter? Why do they feel like two different types of shows?

The only summer CBB I thoroughly enjoyed was CBB16, and even then it wasn't particularly standout good. CBB18 and this series are just uncomfortable to watch, and the only other summer CBB I enjoyed was CBB12, but that was mediocre

January CBB on the other hand? I can't think of one I haven't really enjoyed. Granted there are more of them, but they've all been great some way or the other. CBB19 was probably the worst January CBB for years imo yet I still loved it.

Is it the casting? The fact it's so soon after civilian? The atmosphere of summer? I can't pinpoint it but I just struggle to watch summer CBB sometimes

Because there is that longer break (4/5 months) for the production team to come up with better ideas in January.

Having two celeb series' a year is just exhausting the format. One regular civilian series in the summer and celeb in January, it worked for CH4.

Maybe it's that we've had a bit of an overload. It's so quick after the civilian one.

This series for me is one of my favourite summer Cbb's.

The casts are mostly tragic.

They're not all that different really.

It's just the audience tends to be exhausted from the civilian series just before the summer one.

It's so weird that it always seems to play out like that.

Like you had some really brilliant names in CBB18, and yet the entire thing got ruined by Bear's dominance. Same with CBB20, many of us thought the cast was great on launch night, yet all of them bar Sarah have turned out to be total bores or just completely vile.

I remember CBB19 looking kinda crap at first, like it was supposed to be All Stars and yet they didn't bring back most of the fan faves from CBB. And yet the series turned out to be great and full of drama and fun moments. Like of course legend Kim stole the entire show, but even before she entered things were getting messy with the destruction of Austin etc.

But yeah, that still doesn't answer why the Winter one is always better than Summer. :joker:

I don't really see it like that. Some are bad, some are good, same for winter.

CBB14 is underrated! It just has a terrible eviction order (up until the final anyways)

HBIC 11-08-2017 11:25 PM

It seems like the producers put in more of an effort into the winter CBB than the summer one. the summer CBB always seems like an after-thought. Only CBB16 really had a distinct theme.

And I think the fact that there is a 4-5 month break so there is more hype for the winter CBB helps. CBB in the summer just doesn't feel right sometimes.

Frenchy was robbed </3
I only enjoyed Frenchie vs Leslie. Also Claire (why? god knows, she did nothing memorable) and Gary was an okay winner (the best out of the 6 left I guess?)

Spot on and exactly how I feel. I just can't imagine such things happening in a summer CBB!

I thought that, which is why I probably enjoyed CBB16 more, but even still I prefer the January CBBs to it. A bit hard to judge based on one series for me and maybe I should try rewatching a summer CBB a few weeks/months after summer CBB to see how I gauge it but there's still a different feel imo. It feels like there are more reality tv stars in summer (I remember thinking Chloe was out of place in CBB19, even though we usually get one or two in January anyway)

Yeah, probably a lot of non-reality "celebs" tend to prefer Winter series rather than giving up their summer.

Or opt for the higher rated series for more exposure.

I agree, I always lose interest @ summer CBBs it feels so useless and over done

Both probably, good insight. I never thought of it that way
