Theres something about Raph

So I just finished catching up with bb18 and I absolutely adored it. One of my fave c5 series and it rivals some c4 series. Started off slow but as soon as it found its footing was extremely entertaining and provoked all sorts of emotions for all sorts of characters. But there's one thing I never quite understood when I've read about this before watching.

Why does everyone adore Raph?

Raph was only involved in 4 notable storylines throughout the whole series imo

- Chanelle and Ralph's friendship: the time where I enjoyed seeing Raph most on screen. The bond was cute af and it was nice to see two people from completely different backgrounds coming together.

- Joe vs Raph: lasted for a bit ig but the highlight of it didn't even involve him lmao (Andrew standing up to Joe)

- Pranks: again the highlight of these didn't involve him. The egg prank had the most impact and was the most entertaining and he had no involvement with it. Chanelle and Isabelle's pranks were the better ones, while Ralph's were kinda forced and awkward and never went right, for example in the last few days Raph plays a prank with Chilli powder or smth, the house gets moody, Andrew hides his ducks and Raph gets really pissy.

- pandering finalist edits: nobody likes these

Character wise he's ok I guess. He's sweet enough but I feel like he's quite comparable to charlotte, yet everyone hated her and he placed second? I don't really understand the support for him and why he had such a backing where I feel more people were deserving and had more impact.

For me personally I found Raph quite quirky and hard to read to start off, but he grew on me and I found his ways really endearing.

I enjoyed watching him grow in confidence and expand his friendships especially with characters like Chanelle! He was brilliant at the tasks and at nominations and he was always determined to enjoy the experience - completely. But still he was a tough nut to crack and work out... but I loved that!

He was very complex and sometimes as a viewer you couldn't guess what he would do. (Saving Sue during The Hunt for example).

He's a genuinely sweet guy and seems to have a good heart, it was a pleasure to support him with the fanclub on here and he's definitely one of my favourite housemates, ever.

Plus he's a BB superfan...

Nicky91 19-08-2017 02:21 PM

yes i also compared Raph and Charlotte, both similar lifestyles outside BB i think

and i also didn't quite understand why Raph was liked, and Charlotte wasn't

she also saw BB as a new experience, as a sort of social experiment, not in it for the fame, if she had revealed this during any diary room talk she might've stayed longer i think

It's because he's a member on here. I'm not denying he's a nice guy, but he's just a minor background character who's somewhat good, yet somewhat really irritating and that's not worth the adoration.

Not a valid reason, many recruits have been entertaining.

But that's simply your opinion, the fact he is one of the only housemates this series (alongside Chanelle and Isabelle) that people still give a crap about speaks volumes. A lot of people liked him as a housemate, based on his personality and character.

That's it.

He is a BB superfan and is genuine and nice so we got behind him because of that and that his friendship with Chanelle was the best ever in BB history

Basically what Dominic said, he's a member of TIBB so a lot of people feel some indebted sense of loyalty or whatever and are taking it to rather creepy levels.

In a year that was filled with arguments and Showmances, Raph was kind of a reminder of the good old Ch4 days of a slightly socially awkward guy who was a BB fan who was trying to have fun and enjoy himself, he also tried to play the game in a way that I can respect which is hard to say nowadays on Ch5 BB.

Where as Charlotte didn't really do much other than attack Chanelle and Raph's friendship which I personally didn't like her doing that. Don't get me wrong she wasn't particularly nasty, but she was too biased towards her own clique, and the highlights never showed her doing much which I know wasn't really her fault, but you do have to judge on what you see.

This is 100% correct

I think it played apart for the first few weeks, but he came in 2nd place of the whole competition which TIBB alone wouldn't have given him that placing.

I doubt he'd have half the support he has on here if he wasn't a member. He was a nice guy from the few weeks I saw of the series, but he wasn't exactly riveting viewing.

Vanessa 19-08-2017 06:45 PM

For me he has been one of the most interesting people I've ever seen on the show. Started off quiet, but then came out of his shell.
Glad he got to second place. Very well deserved.

MB. 19-08-2017 06:56 PM

He played his role as the Thorn Cottage press officer well and he enabled the (superior) women in his alliance by any means possible, up to and including single-handedly keeping Chanelle and Deborah in the house on Fight Night, so I can appreciate him in that sense

Oaker 19-08-2017 06:58 PM

He was good at first but in the last 2 weeks he was annoying

millyrose 20-08-2017 06:37 PM

I really liked wanted him to win
