MP shares tweet saying abuse victims should ‘shut their mouths for good of diversity’

A Labour MP has been criticised for sharing a Twitter post telling Rotherham sex abuse victims to ‘shut their mouths for the good of diversity’.

Naz Shah, who represents Bradford West, shared and liked a post tweeted out from a parody account of newspaper columnist Owen Jones.

It said: ‘Those abused girls in Rotherham and elsewhere just need to shut their mouths. For the good of diversity.’

The 43-year-old later deleted her retweet and unliked the post.

But she was criticised by the Equality and Human Rights Commission chief executive Rebecca Hilsenrath who said the MP should ‘know better’.
Ms Hilsenrath said: ‘We need to keep the victims of these horrific crimes at the heart of the debate and always remember that diversity is not served by silence.’

Ms Shah’s comments come just days after she attacked fellow Labour MP Sarah Champion for speaking out about the Rotherham sex scandal in article.

That's pretty awful. I hope the party discipline her.

She should be removed as an MP. Shameful. So diversity is more important to this British born Muslim MP than young sexually abused girls! She was also exposed back in April as being anti-Semitic. She is racist, anti-Semitic and a hypocrite and clearly not fit to be an MP or in any position of power.

It beggers belief when MP's and important public figures display their ignorance on their twitter accounts.

But she is perfect for the labour party.

It's a sign of things to come. I'll wager that the day will come when these political parties will make laws that require sexually assaulted women to keep quiet when it harms the diversity is wonderful narrative. We know that what the left secretly believe today will one day become the laws when the environment changes and they can get away with it.

Unfortunately that seems to be the case! :worry:

To me,She either agreed with the content of the Tweet and RT'd liked and then realised afterwards 'oh ****,I don't want people knowing i think that'

Or

She thought 'ooh ooh Owen Jones i love him!*RT *Like in a fit of fangirl lust
without actually reading it first.

Either way

Kizzy 26-08-2017 10:53 AM

Unacceptable, she needs to go asap!

smudgie 26-08-2017 10:54 AM

So was it ok for Owen to tweet it in the fist place?
Or does a parody account mean it was an imposter?

Smithy 26-08-2017 10:55 AM

The article says it was a parody account

Oooops, I had just popped on to ask about the parody account.
You can tell I am rather thick when it comes to Twitter.

'The retweet in full reads: “RT @Owen_Jones84: @AreeqChowdhury @NazShahBfd Exactly Areeq, those abused girls in Rotherham and elsewhere just need to shut their mouths. For the good of #diversity!” It was dated August 15.'

I don't use twitter, does this retweet mean that is from those 3 other people or to them?

Has she been set up? If she has it worked in spectacular fashion.

Tozzie 26-08-2017 11:30 AM

was it definately a parody account?

This may help! It appears to be saying that her response was to an apparent parody account. That however does not change her response which liked/agreed with the comments made on the parody account. She then later removed her response.

When Corbyn made an MP resign from his front bench for trying to bring such grooming gangs to attention, I think we all know he'll have no problem keeping Naz around...
