Theresa May to quit as Prime Minister in 2019

Theresa May is said to have revealed the date she will quit as Prime Minister - giving herself two years to see Brexit through first.

She has chosen Friday August 30th 2019 as the day she will step down from 10 Downing Street, it has been reported.

It comes amid a major charm offensive by Mrs May in a bid to win the support of her MPs and avoid an awkward leadership challenge.

Hmm... If she'd remained til the next General, it would probably have the same result as the Snap - a win, but not a majority. The Tories need a new leader to get their majority against Corbyn :)

Why wait for tomorrow what can be done today

Kizzy 27-08-2017 01:43 PM

She'll be gone before then imo.

Possibly, but potential usurpers (for want of better word) may see less "urgency" in ousting her, and may focus on setting up an "obvious replacement" to fill her shoes when the time comes around.

If her replacement is Davis, Mogg or someone else that rises to the occasion from the Tory party that is fine by me!

joeysteele 27-08-2017 04:30 PM

She isn't really PM now I think, except for in name only.

No one wants the job yet, the mess she may well make of leaving the EU too to leave for her successor, is going to be interesting at the very least.

smudgie 27-08-2017 04:35 PM

She is only staying for the Brexit backlash, then a new sweep ready for the next election.
They better get their act together if they want any chance next time around.

Good riddance bitch

Couldn't have put it better myself.

I think she probably wanted to go after the election. It was a dark day for her.Of her own making i must add.She probably doesn't feel she can step down while Brexit is happening. It'd look cowardly just running away.To be a little fair to her, whoever took on the role after Cameron high tailed outta there and left Brexit to be sorted out by someone else was pretty much doomed from the outset.
