Scottish independence - yes or no?

The SNP have 'won' the Scottish parliament election.

Should Scotland be an independent country? What do you reckon and why.

All views welcome, not just from Scottish posters. I am interested in what people think about this (sort of )

To be honest I don't really think independence would be a great idea. And I certainly wouldn't want to see border controls between the two countries, or anything like that.

Independence would be a good enough idea if there were proper policies in place to ensure it will work.

My problem at the moment is that the SNP are full of promises, and can't seem to back it up with any concrete plans on how it's going to work.

I didn't vote last week, because frankly none of them have anything worthwhile to offer.

I don't vote, "Full stop!!"

It's a waste of time. Whoever is in power in the government, it wouldn't make any difference.

It will be either, Labour or Conservative and that's it.

Regarding the Scotland issue. I also agree that Scottish independence wouldn't be a good thing.

It would cause more trouble that no one really needs.

Scotland, England, N. Ireland, Wales. (Great Britain)

Let's just keep it that way:thumbs:

I don't think Scottish independence is a good idea, it's not worth the hassle, would seem like a messy process.

I am a Scottish person who lives in England and I have family that lives in both countries, so I agree with James, I don't want to see border controls either.

It's curious how often we humans think that the grass is greener on the other side, especially when it comes to politics. I love our British Union and it has worked well for 400 years. Nothing is perfect but I believe we live in an era where being welcoming and protective to one another is so much more preferable than wanting to separate. I live in London but am in fact 100 % Scottish and born there. (Dundee).
I like Great Britain as it is , though it will never be perfect, so I guess we should just enjoy thinking what it might be like. All THAT OIL, LOL

I think we (Scotland) need to ensure that the SNP serve a term in office where they can prove they know how to run the government before the try to devolve power. Independence from the United Kingdom just isn't an issue anymore. We wouldn't be members of the EU, or NATO, or any of these alliances that help to keep countries out of poverty. Do you really (this is directed at Scottish members here) want to see us waiting for up to a decade trying to get into NATO and the EU? Think of how vulnerable we'd be to famines and the like if anything went wrong! I just don't think we should be taking that risk.
