How do you say “book”?

Do you pronounce it as “buck” or “bewk”?

RileyH 17-09-2017 02:51 PM

buck

Jack_ 17-09-2017 03:00 PM

This is problematic cause 'buck' sounds different depending on if you're from oop north or not. I say it as if it rhymes with f**k and saying 'book' like that is Bristolian tbh

So I say it like 'buck' but the northern way of saying that :hee:

Firewire 17-09-2017 03:23 PM

smudgie 17-09-2017 03:29 PM

Book as in brook.
Buck is a male deer.

Babayaro. 17-09-2017 03:30 PM

What the ****????

I have literally never heard anyone pronounce it "buck".

Jack_ 17-09-2017 03:30 PM

Yeah 'brook' is better, that's how I say it

Jack_ 17-09-2017 03:31 PM

I didn't even know book was a word that could be pronuounced drastically different, barring slight accent variations

Well I say buck but some of my friends say bewk
Even though we’re all northerners:conf:

Buck, but a bit different to it rhyming with 'brook' and also not the same 'buck' as when a horse bucks, kind of in between

What about just saying "book"?

Beso 17-09-2017 04:23 PM

Lots say fook instead of ****....no harm in a wee bit role reversal.

I pronounce it like 'Luke', I'm not sure if that's the same as 'bewk'?

I pronounce some of these differently to each other  Like 'brook', 'cook', 'hook', 'rook' would be the same as 'book'/'luke', but 'took', 'look' would be like 'luck'. Do you say 'food' the same as you pronounce those? ^
