The worst Shopkeepers you've ever had to deal with?

Okay I'm opening up this thread as I am fuming at what one of the Shopkeepers just said to me today but I'll explain the origins of it first.

My Mom loves her Scratchcards and me and my Brother at different times help cash them in for her at our nearest Corner Shop, well recently the male Shopkeeper has been refusing to cash in the Scratchcards unless there's another worker in the shop with him, and I've noticed recently that he was getting annoyed at me coming to him to try and cash in the winning Scratchcards. Now the offensive part then is today I bump into the female Shopkeeper at the Corner Shop and she goes upto me saying that "I have a bad odore" and that I've been "receiving complaints from customers" when really I strongly suspect that it's the male Shopkeeper that's taking a funny with the fact that I keep asking him to cash the winning Scratchcards and he doesn't want to do it for whatever reason, and I always make sure that I'm clean when I go out so I take deep offence that she claims that she can't serve me if I keep having this "bad odore" and btw I've never had complaints from any other shop other than this particular one so this is how I am drawing my conclusion that it's the guy having an issue with me for whatever reason.

Anyway what's the worst you've ever had to put up with from a worker in a Corner Shop/Retail Shop/Supermarket?

I once had a shop assistant in morrisons tut loudly and berate me for 'starving my child' when my daughter (who was 3 days old at the time) woke up and started crying whilst I was paying for my shopping. I was really emotional with all the hormones and stuff and was trying to breastfeed at the time and I went to the chairs at the end of the tills to try and feed her, to which the same assistant started bleating on about how disgusting breastfeeding was and how all the guys in the shop were apparently staring at my nipple

I still with I hadn't been overly emotional that day tbh. She deserved a slap, my reaction was ridiculous...to just listen to her and then get upset :S

I did complain about it and haven't seen her since, so like to assume the bitch was fired for being a twat

The woman at the till tried to speak to me once, harrowing experience.

Scratch cards are the worse when I’m working on the till as it takes forever, I CANT STAND THEM.

Unless the store isn’t busy.

That's the thing though is that I hardly see anyone in there, and I at max will bring two winning Scratchcards with me, yet this Shop in it's own offensive code can't seem to handle it.

My suggestion would be one of two things which is either quit your job, or don't serve Scratchcards and not lie about people's Odore.

Ugh, once I was buying vodka in Aldi on a Saturday, and my friend who bought their own vodka like ten mins before me came in and waited so we could walk to the party together, and the guy assumed he must have stolen it? Even though it was in an Aldi bag with other ****.. and I was there with him paying for mine.. it was weird he kept me, and like a huge line of frustrated people waiting for like 20 mins whilst he checked the security footage. He didn't even apologise when he came back.

But that doesnt really compare to your story! Thats mental.

The lady who works in the costcutter in my village is a bit of a cow tbh

Was once browsing the crisps and decided i no longer wanted crisps (well i say no longer wanted, what i mean is the shop weren’t selling scampi fries, which are the best crisps ever)

So i said to dennis i didn’t want anything and bitchy betty behind the till was pure ragin and shouted over at us “if yer no buying ony-hin, get oot and bide oot” (I’m Scottish)

She also questioned thomson’s maturity when he bought 3 packs of jaffa cakes (what the actual ****????)

Christ in a crack den, talk about bad customer service. I tend to aim for the spar in future so i don’t have to put up with THAT. Not having it.

Firewire 08-10-2017 05:33 PM

Only kidding she sounds like a cow

Cows actually have a very good sense of smell

Hubby and I tend not to dress up when we go shopping, both very casual but smart enough and always showered etc, anyhow, when buying expensive items in shops, we have experienced the audacity of the assistant looking at us and asking if we know/realise the price of whatever it is, (Pretty Woman springs to mind). My stock answer is to look them up and down slowly and roll my eyes, then explain to them that we don't need to know the price as we can afford anything they sell. Cheeky beggars.
It's not as if we go to places selling ruddy designer stuff either.

Do you buy anything else when you go in? If you don't he might be annoyed that you only come in to cash in the cards and buy more which adds nothing to his till

I've sometimes bought some Bread from there and Toilet Roll.

And besides it still doesn't excuse him going to one of his other workers to tell me lies about my odore, and his business does make a profit out of those Scratchcards being sold so it's incredibly dumb of him to be so rude to his customers that buy them.

Oh yeah if it’s quiet then it’s fine!

My store is a hospital one so we have lots of doctors/nurses buying there lunch from M&S so I try and get through them quickly. If someone’s doing lots of scratch cards at peak time then I can see customers getting frustrated in the queue. Anytime after 2 is fine though.

Amy Jade 08-10-2017 10:59 PM

Telling you that you smell is really rude, I work in a supermarket and yeah we do get a few customers who whiff but I would never say anything unless it was so bad it knocked me sick and then it would not be to them tbh

I wouldn't shop there if they are that rude, give your custom to somebody who appreciates it.

jaxie 08-10-2017 10:59 PM

What a nasty experience Mock and what a nasty woman to come up to you and say that. I'd have been inclined to tell her she wasnt chuffing up so sweet herself, rude cow.

I agree with you. I go on the lottery and it is a bit frustrating when people turn up with a big wad of them, once a woman brought so many, must have been 30 odd cards, no word of a lie and as I scanned them on the lottery some were not even winners so the other lady who was in the kiosk started to sort them into winning piles and the woman insisted we scan them still. Worst thing was she moaned she had to hurry as her bus was due soon and she ended up getting about £20 out of all the tickets.

If she was in a bloody rush why hand in 30+ scratch cards your too lazy to check and insist on being scanned and expect it done in 2 minutes.

Thanks Amy.

Tbf to the woman in question even though it was rude of her to come up to me and say that, I honestly think that the guy that works there put her upto it as she hardly ever sees me so she wouldn't be getting these "complaints" I honestly think the guy is making the whole complaints thing up to try and stop me from going in there to disturb him from his Phone which he is always on when I go in there.

And yeah I don't think that I want to go in there again after that embarrassment tbh so he got what he wanted.

Thanks Jaxie.:)

Yeah without meaning to be nasty to the woman she didn't exactly look clean herself so it was ironic that she came up to me to say what was clearly the most basic lie that they could come up with that would sound plausible.

I normally feel sorry for workers who have to deal with tons of Scratchcards winnings at once as they're getting the grief then for the Customer being a nuisance.

However I'd lose sympathy for any worker that is so blatantly rude and lazy like that guy clearly seems to be, I mean he couldn't even come up to speak to me himself the coward.
