breastfeeding 5 year olds

this woman on this morning breastfeeds ha 5yo

do you find this abormal or are you a live and let live kinda gal?

Crimson Dynamo 02-11-2017 10:46 AM

its ridiculous and attention seeking

Cherie 02-11-2017 10:49 AM

if a 5 yo was still sucking on a bottle, Mumsnet would probably go into meltdown, so I don't see the difference here, I guess it depends how often we are talking, is it a night time comfort thing or is she popping into the school at lunchtime to rehydrate the kid, time to let the baby phase pass I think, each to their own but most parents want their children to develop in line with their peers and there really is no need...

she said the 5yo only feeds at night to help her get to sleep but she has a 2yo who feeds 8-10 times a day :skull:

It would also save a trip down to the foodbanks for many a mother on a cold and frosty morning.

or maybe she could send the Dad to the foodbank instead?

Kazanne 02-11-2017 11:25 AM

The trouble I find with it is her husband is getting pushed out as she feeds the kid during the night,I thinks someone said he had a seperate bedroom, that's not right imo.

I meant the dad wouldnt be there, surprised this one is.

Very true, but having little johnny gnawing away at your teat until the age of 7 or 8 should be given more thought by the poorest in society.

Not something I would personally do tbh...the teeth...I would never breastfeed past the teeth stage. FFS I only breastfed by son til he was 2 weeks old and even that hurt so much D:

I believe theres evidence thats its beneficial to the kid and mother though. As with a lot of things, each to their own, but I do find the thought of this pretty icky
