Is this Nicky from OITNB’s origin story?

looper007 12-12-2017 02:27 PM

Great little movie, with a great central performance from Natasha Lyonne (from American Pie films and OITNB) who is so loveable and is one of the reasons the film works as well as it does.

The film is campy as hell but its all done in a ironic way. It's obvious influence is John Waters. But the film has a heart to it and the romance between Lyonne and Clea Duvall is sweet without been sickly. The cast is fantastic with Cathy Moriarity (Raging Bull) as the villain acting up a storm, even Rupaul is fantastic playing against type. Great to see the underrated and underused Melanie Lynsky with a nice little role as one of the students in the camp. Also a young Michelle Williams and Julie Delpy in cameos.

Even though it loses it's way somewhat at the end, the film is a overall joy to watch.

I went home and watched this after it was referenced in a lecture last year, it's a decent film for its use of irony and satire to transgress gender/sexuality norms but Christ is it poorly acted

There was only one laugh out loud scene for me too

Isn't the acting purposely like that? It gives off the 80s B-movie vibe.

Jack_ 12-12-2017 05:19 PM

Maybe, I know that it was meant to be tacky, absurd and ironic so idk maybe bad acting was a part of that
