I think this was inevitable really.
It's something that wasn't going away.

Damian Green, one of Theresa May's closest allies, has resigned from the cabinet after an investigation found he had breached the ministerial code.

He quit after he was found to have made "inaccurate and misleading" statements about what he knew about claims pornography had been found on a computer in his Commons office in 2008.

In his resignation letter, Mr Green apologised for his actions.

In her response, Mrs May expressed "deep regret" at his departure.

Mr Green, who as first secretary of state was the PM's deputy, had been under investigation regarding allegations of inappropriate conduct.

He denied suggestions that he made unwanted advances to a female journalist, Kate Maltby, in 2015 and viewed pornography on a computer in his Commons office in 2008.

He lied about the porn on his computer ... he had to go

smudgie 20-12-2017 09:04 PM

Oh dear, he really had to go.
So he was asked to resign, polite way of getting the sack.

Shaun 20-12-2017 09:06 PM

Bet he found that hard

Bai

what i find interesting still about this one is that he has been found to have done wrong by the standards committee and yet he still maintains his innocence saying he did nothing wrong and wouldn't have gone unless shoved out the door.

shambles

waterhog 21-12-2017 09:38 AM

I think the porn may have been me and a lady called sue he was watching - if I had a link I would connect  where is my medication :nono:

Right decision, most people wouldn't keep their job in these circumstances

joeysteele 21-12-2017 11:23 AM

What happened to slimy David Davies indicating he'd walk if Green was forced out by the police reveal issue.

Probably looking for Jonathan Aitken's sword of truth

He's been sacked for being too embarrassed to admit to watching porn?

I don't think a person would be sacked from a job for having (legal) porn discovered on a work computer for a different job, nine years ago.

The PM's number 2 shouldn't put himself in a position where he lies if something is personally embarrassing to him. He was in a position of trust

Of course he should, he was a parliamentary worker who looked at porn in his place of work.

He was only investigated because he was trying to dig as much dirt on the Labour Party as possible and used a young civil servant to dig that dirt. The civil servant was sacked whilst Green, who had instructed this man to do his dirty work, got investigated and that's when the porn was found. Green along with the civil servant should of been sacked 10 years ago.

I agree. If he'd put up his hand and admitted to doing something stupid, he'd probably still be working today. We all know he's guilty but his insistence on being wrongly accused hasn't worked in his favor.

Nope he's been sacked for lying twice in two separate statements one on the 4th of Nov and again on the 11th, thus breaching the ministerial code.

If he had kept his lying gob shut he might have kept his job.

jaxie 26-12-2017 10:35 AM

This is an odd case with no actual proof he was the one downloading or looking at porn, which isn't illegal anyway. Messages from the woman who complained about him tell a slightly different story of friendly intimacy. Maybe he read the signals wrong and made a pass, still not a crime. I think what the police/former police did in this case was disgraceful and sets a dangerous precedent.

I worry that this is badly out of proportion you won't be able to smile at someone soon. You haven't committed a crime beyond some woman saying you make her feel uncomfortable and a computer you, or an assistant, might have used a decade ago had some naughty pics on and you lose your job and reputation. That's a lot more uncomfortable IMO.

Most of the population would lie or deny everything when confronted with those kind of accusations.

DemolitionRed 26-12-2017 06:46 PM

He was initially investigated for lying. A young civil servant was the scapegoat in that sorry scenario. Damian Green has been playing dirty games for a long time and its not just porn.

A politician lying? As if that would ever happen!
