The new Northern Ireland-based comedy Derry Girls is set to premiere on Channel 4 in the New Year.

Set against the backdrop of the Troubles, the upcoming series will give TV viewers a glimpse of life here in the early 1990s.

The sitcom is being touted as one of the broadcaster's upcoming big hits, with a satirical look at life as a normal teenager amid unusual circumstances.

This looks good, I'll give the first episode a watch.

The trailer reminds me of Some Girls.

RileyH 25-12-2017 10:56 PM

The gal with the black hair is already iconic

RileyH 18-01-2018 03:34 PM

I'm loving it so far

1,2 & 6 were the best eps, the eps where they aren’t at strong aren’t as strong imo, the nun and the prissy girl are really good supporting cast members.

Can anyone explain the end tho, why were they showing the bombing (was anyone else hoping the old man had been killed btw? He’s such a **** :fist:) as a montage with the girls dancing :conf2:

RileyH 10-02-2018 06:32 PM

i need to catch up

LaLaLand 13-02-2018 10:33 PM

I've only just got into DG, watched the whole series tonight and I love it! Def a new fav of mine now.

The ending was brilliant too, so touching and fitting for the time the show was set. Shows the girls innocence and perhaps defiance in what was going on on their doorstep.

Shaun 01-03-2018 10:27 PM

this is iconic

LaLaLand 01-03-2018 10:35 PM

I've rewatched it again since finishing first time and it's just brilliant. Orla is iconic!

"Who the **** is Kemal?"

"He's a wee Ethiopian fella from Ballybofey"

Can't wait for Series 2.

Shaun 03-03-2018 12:13 AM

"The next stage is Rome. An audience with the big man."
"Pavarotti."
"John Paul II."

Jason. 13-02-2019 09:46 PM

Saw the trailer earlier, really excited for this.

LaLaLand 13-02-2019 09:47 PM

Was watching a S1 episode the other day, when they set the chip woman's curtains on fire so the Mam and Auntie staged a hostage situation.

"Shall we knock them about a bit? Nothing drastic just a few slaps? Not even the wee gay fella?" :laugh3:

Found a clip!
